Ok, so I managed the first day post... missed the 1 week post, so here’s our one month post!
Well, it seems longer than a month, but we arrived in Auckland on the 22nd January and travelled down to ChCh, visiting Taupo, Napier and Wellington on route and ending in ChCh.... then we drove back to Auckland again to settle here.
We really felt that Auckland was for us and we’re really pleased we’ve ended up here. We always thought we would settle in ChCh, but found it just too English for us and we felt Auckland was really multicultural with a tropical feel.
Since arriving we’ve been pretty busy, not only travelling around, but organising accommodation, a car, utilities (still waiting for broadband!), furniture, getting to know the city, people and now currently looking for a job! (.NET Developer / architect if anyone’s recruiting ;))
Our impressions of NZ still remain high, although trying to get a handle on the cost of day to day items is hard without knowing how much money we will be clearing each month. We’re trying not really going down the whole ‘convert to sterling route’ as most things seem great value if we do this. However, looking at what I’m likely to earn on a NZ salary – things are more expensive.. but we always knew this.
We’re definitely pleased that we’ve moved out, our container will arrive at the beginning of April, so that will be great to have all of our stuff!
How can I close? Well, we’re still learning the culture and the city, so it is difficult to offer any useful perils of wisdom, so I think I’ll wait until the 3 month post for that one.
