Right, well the flight was gruelling, thought I'd been on it a week! Will
cut his first tooth the night before, which was fun : ) but despite this I
thought he was fantastic, as were the kids. Air New Zealand were fabulous,
we kept getting fast tracked through all the queues!! Biosecurity at
Auckland airport was abit scary, especially when they found kids
wellies covered in mud! I wanted to find a hole to crawl into...and if looks could kill my hubby would be dead.
We arrived in Wellington to glorious sunshine (we missed our connecting
flight so were abit late) and were picked up almost straight away by two of
Chris' work colleagues who seemed really nice and full of handy tips of
places to go with the kids. The drive through Welly was fantastic, amazing
city...can't wait to explore, I've never seen anything like it. It's
compact, very interesting, all sparkly and new and has a white sand beach
that people swim in! With huge green hills behind the office
blocks....really lovely.
Took about 40 minutes to drive to the house. Which is simply beautiful, much
better than photo's. The views from the house are stunning (look out onto beach and kapiti island) and the kids haven't got off the trampoline or beach yet, it's just fantastic, I think we've really landed on our feet here, lets hope the good luck keeps on coming! We spent yesterday sorting internet, bank accounts etc etc but still haven't unpacked yet : ) We're going to visit the school on monday with a possible start for the kids on Tuesday (they asked to!).
We've been invited to a mudslide today but not sure if we're going to go as
a rainstorm arrived last night, still really warm though (about 19/20).
Wellington has this big carnival on this weekend so will probably see that
on Sunday. Next weekend might be the Te Papa museum, it's meant to be
fantastic, at the moment they have this giant squid (about 20 feet long) in
residence which the kids want to see. Can't think of anything worse myself
but hey ho.
All up it's going really well, and we're still feeling very excited about
it. Jet lag hasn't been too bad actually (she says as she types this email
at 3.48 in the morning). I was meant to call family last night but I feel
asleep on the sofa at 7.30 after my first kiwi fish and chips and didn't
wake up! All coming together nicely and first impressions I'm glad to report are vay vay good :nice1
