A nice chap from PSS came today to rummage through our cupboards and tell us how much it would cost to ship our possessions to NZ. When presented with our whisky collection, he suggested that we'd better get drinking. Apparently there have been a few customers recently who've had their wine collections inspected and taxed.

So, a wee dram before bed every night (just as well we're not going until July!!) :cheers

Mind you, that doesn't mean you don't have to have a wee dram anyway...medicinal of course :D

We came across 12 months ago and brought our whisky collection (2.5 cases unopened bottles, and 4 - 5 part drunk bottles), also half a dozen bottles of wine & champagne. We declared it all, and had no issues.

It seems that the packers all tell a different story about what you can & cannot bring with you!

bring it (well - after you've had a little to calm your fraying nerves!!)
we bought quite a lot of booze, even some opened bottles which we taped up. The packers put it in with kitchen stuff (I bought various bits of packet foods too) and it all got here ok with no-one asking to check or any interest from customs.

the amount of stuff we got rid of because of horror tales from packers etc - I SO regret it all now. We had 17 of our 250 boxes checked by MAF and they didn't seem bothered by half the stuff we thought they'd check.

good luck!

I must admit, not sure sure I need it more this side of the globe to calm the stress or over in NZ as we scrabble to find jobs and learn to cope with the driving ;-)
