Hi
I am about to submit my EOI and need some guidance. I have just completed my tertiary education (MBA) with my first bachelors' s degree in 1990. I have been working since 1993 in US and then in UK. I am really worried about my EOI being accepted. As per my calculation, I score about 110 points, but thats' subjective.
I have never been to New Zealand and don't know anything about the employment scene. I got 2 girls, older one starting school this fall. Ideally, I would like to move before she starts schooling.
Can some one give firstly guide, me on best way to progress the EOI application successfully and secondly, average time scales involved in the whole process. I am a British citizen.
Looking forward to hear from experts.
thanks

Viv,
Firstly, if you complete the EOI online (as opposed to on paper) it should tell you your points as you go, and will also tell you if you have skipped any sections. So some of your worry about subjectivity might be alleviated.
Not having been to NZ is not a massive worry. Many applicants have not been, although you will see on this forum mentions that it certainly helps you at interview (and even documentation) stage if you have been there for even a little while. Instead, try to focus on making a few contacts there - not just friends, family or work, but also folks such as estate agents, school prinicpals, etc. Doing research and knowing details impresses NZIS, too, not just travel.
If you can spare the money now, I would sit down at a PC for an hour or two with your file cabinet of of personal papers (birth cert., passport, etc.) and just do an EOI online. You are maybe too late for today's drawing, but chances are the points will go up soon and you don't want to miss the boat.
One practical point: try to look at NZIS publications to see whether your quals. need to be assessed (because of, for example, where you studied: is it on their 'already apporved' list?)
Other than that, just sell yourself as well but as honestly as you can on the EOI and get it in as soon as you can (your funds permitting - I know we're not all made of money!) :nice1
Cheers,
Matt.

Oh, and, Viv, we got PR today(!) almost exactly five months after our EOI was selected. No job offer, and we're not on the most acute shortage lists.
If anything processing sems to be getting faster because NZIS seem to be farming EOIs out to non-London offices so that folks get their ITAs sooner.
Cheers,
Matt.

We did our EOI in Jan, it takes a bit of time to do it all on line, but you can save it as you go. There is lots of advice on here about it, and if stuck as questions.
We got selected the same day (submitted it just before 9am NZ time), then got selected within2 weeks, am now just about to send of our ITA. We are not on the skills shortage list and have never been to NZ.
Just doing research into where to go, schools and jobs. I will be getting Andy to ring agencies and some companies over the next few weeks to talk about employment prosepects there.
Ask any questions, we are all there or have been there.
Good luck.

Welcome to the Forum Viv
We completed our EOI on line in November and were selected within a couple of days. Sent our ITA off just yesterday :hopeso
We have only 100 pts. no job offer. Keith is listed under the priority occupation list (POL) as aeronautical engineering (ex RAF)
We've never been to NZ and do not have any friends that have (besides those on this forum !)
It's so much easier to complete the EOI on line. We printed out a copy first and filled it in as a hard copy. which made the online process easier.
Good Luck
There is an enormous amount of experience and help here whenever you need it.
