am i right in thinking that the quickest way of starting work is to get a work permit and then whack in the eoi? would anyone do a wtr and a PR app at the same time or is this counter productive?
also.. can you get double bubble via LA on a work permit or does it have to be PR?
On a work permit can you go in on a one way flight?

This is one thing I can reply to. :nice1 As long as you have a permit lasting 12 months or more, you can fly one way, but you have to prove you will have funds to leave when you are required to. Actually, you're required to provide proof of funds or sponsorship any time you are allowed by your CO to fly in one way on a temp/non-residence basis.
Honestly, even though I don't plan to leave NZ in time to use the credit, my three children and I are flying in on round trip tickets as the total cost is ~$800 USD cheaper than one way flying Air NZ out of Los Angeles... I don't get it, but it's the way things are here.

so would you just need an unused credit card upon entry?
also.. can you avoid the medicals by saying you want the visa for 11 months to be quick even though you plan to have them for the PR app?

put in both it saves time, money and you can get a longer work permit thats what we did it also meant free hospital care etc should you need it, get the ball rolling before you leave the UK on your EOI it takes long enough anyway, also should the family join you before PR you can sponsor them for work permits, student visas etc
Also with work permit you can def fly one way not prove funds smae for family when come over the visa I had cost £95

I'm entering on a Visitors Visa, but because I intend to stay in NZ once there, I had to submit full medicals for my family. It'll be up to your CO on what kind of proof you will need financially for one way tickets.

if by double bubble you mean weight allowance then with Air NZ they offer the extra weight allowance on the LA route, regardless of whether you are one-way, return, visitor or visa holder (unless of course they have changed policy very recently) :)

Neil, we were looking for the quickest route and were all set to do the work permit thingy, but with 190 points and a job offer, we actually got PR in 3 months from start to finish and it saved us a lot of money in the long run.

No one ever asked me for proof of funds to leave NZ. I suppose that was covered under my financial aid that I had to prove I had for living expenses.
They definitely didn't check at the airport (Though they did query why I didn't have a return ticket when I was flying out of the US, but telling them I had a student visa made them happy enough).

Well if my memory serves me correctly, we put the EOI in in October 2006 and had the blue stickers by November, and the rest of the time was spent selling up and booking flights, but I'm a bit hazy now....
