We've had a pretty good deal on a long term rental at these apartments in Sumner. Does anyone have any experience of them please?

I haven't stayed there myself but they have a good review on Trip Advisor:

We stayed in a ground floor apartment at the Sumner Oceanview apartments when we first arrived in NZ. It was fully furnished and had everything we needed.

My only complaint was that the road outside was used by Hoons at weekends to drive up and down, music thumping, wheels skidding and turbos making a racket, until quite late at night on occasion.

Otherwise it's a nice location with cafes and shops on the doorstep - about 20 mins into centre of town.

Thank you both for these. We were thinking about taking a three month rental but the dreaded hoons ... I hear so many stories. It must be difficult when you actually come to buy a house, making sure that you're not on their route. Do they tend to frequent particular areas or is generally long straight roads?

I think the problem is not as bad as it was. They have put a lot of speed bumps in that area and the police are there regulary (also to enfore the liquor ban).

If you are buying a house then the 1st tell tale signs are the marks on the roads.
