Sorry, not been on in ages...life has been very busy. DH started back at work on his phased return following months off with depression for occupational burnout. Currently still there but not sure for how long given the recession. He and his boss still don't see eye to eye style wise but they like each other..but if push comes to shove he may well be first to go.

We finally managed to get out ITA back to our agents on Monday. Due in to NZIS by 21st March. Phone call today to say that we had everything there and had done an excellent job apart from a slip up where we had kept one original instead of the photocopy. But they reckon that the application is in tip top shape. I'm posting them the missing "No, I'm not a terrorist" form. We missed it because this new "additional details" form does not appear on the lists anywhere and on Tuesday it is off to NZ House!

:clap

Very happy both of us!

And on Tuesday we had the first of the container shippers come to give us a quote which amazed me. Moving 250 miles the last time without them shifting my car cost just about half of what it will cost to shift us to the other side of the world with our car in the 40 foot container! :nice1

Hope everyone else is doing well and hope to have time over the next few months to join you all again.

all sounding good! Fingers crossed for you.

Which shippers did you get a quote from? We are also taking a car - and a motorbike - as well as house contents.

Hi Jac

That was from PSS. We had seen them at the Leeds Expo last year. They rang. I said still not that far down the line but they said they would come and do the measure up anyway as they were in the area.

This was just our first touch base and would involve shipping car boxed in 40 foot container (we are over the size for a 20 footer with house contents anyway) Cost likely to be £5150 + MAF fees + insurance which currently runs at 2.8% of value of container. This was pack at our hosue, ship to within 30 miles of ChCh.

Never sure with movers as we had the same removal company move us twice. Once they were brilliant, the second time I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. Think it all depends upon the teams involved.

Think we have the details somewhere for Anglo Overseas but I am not sure who else to contact? Any suggestions?

Hey Mamee,

Crown Relocations and Allied Pickfords appear to have a good rep on this forum (looking at past posts). I decided to go with the latter in the end as quote price was marginally better than Crown. Definitely worth haggling with them on their quote I think. Obtained a third quote from Anglo Pacific, which was somewhere inbetween the two.

In fact, I've just had the removal guys in to pack my stuff for Wellington. They were very professional and efficient and made sure I'd not forgotten anything. We'll see how they go on the other side!

On insurance, I took that out with Letton Percival - mostly as advised from this forum - who charge 1.6%, which is substantially better than the 3% charged by the shipping companies. However, some of them are willing to lower their charges, so might be worth bargaining down to 1.6%, if not, go with Letton Percival instead (the process is pretty straightforward by the way).

hope this helps,

Ken
