Hi have applied for our PR and now wait patiently. I am a primary school teacher y4-9. I was wondering how long, on average, it will take to find a teaching post once we get there?(If we in fact get there!!!) I don't think I could stand being unemployed for too long, but need to know what I'm in for. Hubby is involved in agriculture and he too would need to find something, but I think it will probably be easier for me to find something first.
I have heard that it is pointless trying to secure a post from here(SA)before we come over.
Can anyone share their own experiences and give advice PLEEEASE!
Thanks
Jen

Depends on where you are planning to live? If Auckland, you'll probably get a position quite quickly and if you already have PR then you can do relief work anyway. Elsewhere, not sure but again there'll always be relief work.

Good luck!

Just a thought - have you started the process of registering for teaching in NZ?

Yes I have my registration. We did want to be out of Auckland, but I suppose we need to go where the work is. Carey, I seem to think you are in Cambridge. We wanted to look in the Hamilton Cambridge area as Hubby is an agronomist.
Are you enjoying the area? Did get your job from the UK or once you were there?

Yep , LOVE Cambridge and surrounding area. Got my initial job from the UK, now on another job. But although my job description is teacher, I'm working in a daycare centre, rather than a primary school. Have done a little bit of relieving though and am applying for local jobs with fingers crossed.

Good luck Carey. I'm thinking of retraining this year to include early childhood education. I'm sure it will be useful. I'm sure relief teaching is a great way to make a name for yourself and suss out what school you would like to teach in. I think the relief teaching thing is also great while you are trying to settle in. That way you still have some time to settle your kids in their schools and find your feet etc
