How do I find out how much my car is worth?

My father-in-law is interested in buying our car off us, and has asked me to let him know how much we want for it. Trouble is, I have no idea. I had a look on trademe, but there's only one other comparable vehicle on there at the moment, and we live in the middle of nowhere so there aren't any dealers I can go to ask. How do I find out how much it's worth?
Cheers.

Turners have a price guide that seems to be accurate

It's very quick and simple to use CarJam (http://www.carjam.co.nz) which in turn uses the Turners values. Just enter your PLATE number.

Funny you should have posted this as i have been to our local dealer this morning about ditching my car which is a Saab 9-3. Now i bought this two years ago from the said dealer for 13.5k, and now its worth 7k(according to him). He tells me that cars devaluate by 3k a year.....do we believe a used car dealer;) So on his scale of valuing cars take 3k off for each year you have had it and there's your price.
Anybody want to by a Saab 9-3 for a little more than what Arfur Daly has offered.
Here is what CarJam say.......................

Cheers Ian, and Pleccy.
I just put our plate into carjam, and got the following:
Price range $2,750 - $16,600, based on 9 vehicles. That's quite a range!
