Hi all,

Anyone know anything about the new legislation passed 2 weeks ago regarding work permits??

I have just been totally blind sighted by my immigration agent as he has just informed me that as a result of this new legislation I can no longer immigrate to NZ.

That's all very well....but my furniture is sold, I have given notice where I stay, re-homed my dog, paid for my accommodation...and, oh yes, already paid my immigration agent a lot of money which he is not refunding!!!!!!!!!

I don't have much information on this legislation and it seems rather all of a sudden. Surely an immigration agent should have some sort of heads up???

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Having a quick look at the immigration site nothing has changed as far as I can see.

Maybe someone else knows something different. Did your agent say what it was that had changed that is now stopping you going? I would have thought if you were just about to leave and had been using an agent you would already have those little blue stickers in your passport?

Not heard any changes to work permits, if it is a change to the legislation then it should be found on www.legislation.govt.nz (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/) (don't see anything though).

Are you sure that it is new legislation and not just a policy change?

There has been some mention on the forum that accredited employers aren't able to use their status to offer some jobs to migrants that can be done by kiwis?

NZIS don't normally stop applicaitons in progress so no idea why you are being told that suddenly its all a no go? Would definitely be asking for more information from your agent.

BTW, there is some new legislation coming in that all immigration advisers have to be licensed but even this doesn't affect offshore advisers yet.

I agree with Ian that you need this agent to state exact details of what he's claiming is the problem, and a source you can check out independently.

Have you checked the NZ immigration site yourself? - does it look as if your situation matches up to their requirements?
