I had a call this morning at 8.20am from 'my' NZ employer calling to say they are withdrawing the job offer made to me back in December. They have had to reduce their budget and are subsequently reviewing all their employee's roles, both existing and offered. I completely understand the situation they are in, but this doesn't make it any easier to bear :wah
Some of you may have read my thread a couple of weeks ago, when they rang to explain what the current economic sitiation was like for them in Auckland and they were basically giving me the opportunity to not come if we wanted more stability in the UK.
The good thing is that they've been nothing but fair to me in their dealings and communication, so I am thankful for that.
They have offered to consider reimbursing some/all of our expenses so far in securing the visas (My son and I have ours and just waiting for a medical assessor to okay OH's), so need to put together a list of costs incurred.

So, what's next? I'm off sick today (nothing life threatening, just a tummy bug), so I'll be spending as much time as I can manage looking at all the accredited employer's websites and applying for suitable jobs. We'll be looking at any location now, not just Auckland (not sure how we managed to choose one of the (if not the most) expensive locations in NZ to live). Then hope that if I can secure another offer, we can persuade NZIS to change the details on the visas.
Another thought is that we might need to be out in NZ to properly secure interviews this time (I managed to get the other job through telephone and SKYPE which is not ideal). Son is off for 4 weeks for Easter hols, so we'll think about dipping into the savings (again) to have a short (2 weeks?) recce.
If it's meant to be for us, it'll happen :nice1 On and upwards!

This could be a very positive thing, almost a blessing in diguise. You basically get your PR's for free, you will have to find another job. The cost is one thing that is holding us back. Good luck, if you found one job there is bound tobe another one, maybe even more suited to you.

bad luck Elaine come out with your attitude you should be able to get something, hook up with a few recruitment agencies before you come this will help what line of work are you in? The fact you have PR will go along way!

Thanks for all the positive vibes, these will ALL help :) I thought I'd update you on my day. Had a few tears (that's what frustration does for you) but I decided almost immediately that that was not going to get us anywhere, so I have trawled through every single organisation on the NZIS accredited employers list, bookmarked the websites that I was interested in, signed up for email alerts and applied for 6 jobs  I too believe that I will find the right job in the right place. After all, the job they've just withdrawn was the only one I applied for in NZ.
Got a day off on Friday so we're going up to the One Life Live event in London (OH wangled 2 free tickets from somewhere) thought we needed a bit of light relief and nurturing.

Finally I have to say I really love being in my family; OH is so supportive and lovely and even my beautiful son (aged 10) is being positive 'you'll get another job mum' :laugh

Hi Elaine
Just to note the NZIS site is not always correct I work for Capital & Coast CCDHB who have been accredited for many years but when I got this job were certainly not on the NZIS website I am not sure the list is 100% accurate you usally find most Govt departments are but not all listed!

Life is too short to stop thinking of your dream so the best advise i can give you is do the recce, try to line up some face to face interviews first as thats what i did and the 10th interview in 4 days bagged me my job with New Zealand Defence Force. Keep your chin up and dont stop going for it.

All the best.
