I'm the impatient sort, don't like waiting for anything really!
Arrived in Auckland on Saturday, yay! So good to be back.
Problem is, I have been emailing recruitment agencies all over the place and only one or two have bothered to get back to me. I know it's only three days, well not even but in the UK I'm usually inundated with calls by this time. Good old Kiwi laid back attitude eh!
Any recommendations for agencies for PA/Secretarial work, give me a shout, although I have probably already emailed them my CV!
Rant over :o

I think you may get a better response by phoning them, not everyone seems to get on that well with emailing - it's too easy to ignore :)

Try the email site Track me back thi is for returning Kiwis like yourself a friend of mine runs it it is heavily sponsored by huge corporates who review CV's posted on there also look at firms direct. Where I work we are cutting back on agencies big time and just advertising on our website this does not however stoip the agencies bugging me.

Thanks for that Janey, I'm not a returning Kiwi, a returning working holidayer from the UK who wants to settle here now. I may just register anyway and see what happens.
Interesting what you say about agencies, I have noticed that their vacancy lists are sparse, the one I'm seeing today has one vacancy at the moment, makes me question whether two hours of my time is worth it if they don't have anything to offer me!

at the moment in the uk it would be the same. not many jobs and a lot of people looking. I think its a bit better here though.

Well, still not even a vague sniff of interest. Am applying for everything I can find but there isn't a whole lot out there unfortunately. I just keep telling myself all I need is one interview!
Got the Herald today and it didn't have one vacancy for me to apply for! Tough times.................
I think my poor Mum is panicking a little which in turn makes me a bit jittery but just have to keep positive and remind myself I am still not even two weeks in. Money is going to become an issue fairly soon though if something doesn't turn up and I am STILL stuck in a hostel which adds to the mild depression.
Oh well, at least I got to swim with dolphins in the Bay of Islands at the weekend :D

you are not alone 925dancer! haha..
stuck here in auckland hostel, tired of searching jobs and looking at the same ads! i got one proper interview though, and i hope another one will come this week. but i've been here in auckland for 2 weeks already, and these are headhunter's interview, nothing more..
by the way, i was in tauranga before auckland, and the swim with the dolphins was less than successful! :( haven't got the chance to swim with them, only saw a couple of them jumping. which company did you go? i used butler's..

Hey yossarian! I am totally feeling your pain about being in a hostel, I finally got out a week ago which has helped boost my spirits no end! I have landed right into a bit of a social life, my flatmate is lovely and has welcomed me with open arms and her friends have been equally generous.
I am still having no success on the job front, cash is running scarily low and I really miss my cats :wah I just have to keep telling myself something will come up.
As for the dolphins, I can't remember the name of the company but it was the smallest dolphin swim boat going out of Paihia. They can't make any promises about you being able to swim with them, or even see them, they are wild creatures after all. We'd been looking for about two hours and had all but given up when we stumbled across them. Was well worth it though.
Good luck!

sorry i mixed up, i was in bay of plenty, not bay of islands. haha
that's good for you! the operator told us we can come back anytime for another free tour, so that was kind of them.
i actually just got back from an interview, and it was still for a headhunter...and still nothing sure at the moment. :(

FINALLY! I have an interview next Wednesday! It has only taken two applications, four emails and two weeks for them to ask me! It's not for a job I had really seriously been looking at (property manager, wanted to get out of property but it still works for my PR application).
Lesson here? Apply for anything you think you can do in the current climate, even in New Zealand and everything takes aaaaaages. No sense of urgency which is lovely unless you want them to get something done:D

Good luck ... seems to me some employers definitely don't have a sense of urgency :uhoh
I heard back from a potential employer whose deadline for job applications was the beginning of Feb, they got back a couple of weeks ago saying they'll get around to looking at applications in the next couple of weeks. That deadline has been and gone and I've still not heard anything, good job I'm not dependant on getting that job :uhoh

Well, turns out that wasn'teven the proper interview. Theperson doing thefinal interview is away and very busy so the owner of the business is doing some weeding out and then will arrangeproper interview.
Good news is he said he will definitely recommend I'm seen again and he said they'd got about 100 applications and they picked out about 6 to see provisionally which is what today was.
I STOOD OUT. FINALLY!:bluebanana
Hopefully I get the call for the second interview next week when everybody is back from Easter.

Sorry, still waiting for Vodafone to pull their finger out and turn our account on so am dashing to the internet cafe or Esquires when I can :wah
It went very well, all but offered me the job on the spot. Just have to go in on Tuesday to meet the guy I'll be working with most to make sure there's no horrific personality clash. I'll sign the contract there and then all being well. They have even agreed to up my starting salary so that it meets my residency application requirements:D Also, that was the minimum I had in my head that I would accept/think I'm worth. It is a little pay cut comparitive to UK but as I was living in London my cost of living has reduced considerably.
Oh and I also get a company car, they have no spares which means I'll get a brand new one, Nissan Micra I think.

Nearly there! I'm in as long as my references come back okay which they will (unless one who is now a friend is feeling like winding me up hehe).
I start tomorrow morning if she has the references! Also, they won't bring the salary up straight away but will play it by ear over the next couple of months and up it when they're happy, then I can start my PR application, eek!

Started today and survived, I think mostly because I spent the afternoon in a conference!
Get my car tomorrow and my mobile sometime soon. So far so good!
