......and don't you just love them!

Tanya and Raeven have previously come out of the closet, just wondering how many others are lurking out there?
..and more to the point, are you going to NZ mainly to keep the other 1/2 happy, or are you the driving force behind the move, and why?

Hands up !!! I have a Kiwi spouse. IT'S YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've agreed to move to NZ to keep all of us happy. You know we have a good life here in the UK - we know we'll have a good life in NZ too. We love it there, our boys love it there.

And (running the risk of making others puke - sorry folks) - you and the boys are the loves of my life, doesn't matter where we are. It's just a damn fine stroke of luck that not only are you my man - but you're my Kiwi man - 15 years don't lie babes xxx

(For those of you thinking we're abit sick ..... PB works away on an oil rig off the coast of Egypt - we won't be seeing each other until 7th Oct)

Hands up, I am the other half of Tanya. All she has to do is find me a job to replace the one I am giving up (£60k per annum, final salary pension, company car) and find a house to replace the one we have (5 bed in a nice quiet Nottinghamshire village). Not too much to ask is it? :(

At least my Jag is coming with us. :nice1 I might not be able to afford to run it anymore because we don't have jobs to go to but I can sit in it making brooming noises when I get homesick.

If the things don't go well at least my mother-in-law has some spare bedrooms. :eek :eek :eek

Mike is my Kiwi. He's been in Europe for nearly 12 years and he wants to go home. But, I'm the one who's obsessing about it. I've wanted to go for years but we had a PLAN so couldn't go earlier. The one thing I definitely know is that we'll be in NZ by this time next year (much sooner hopefully).

I am the kiwi spouse! Me and my boyfriend should be in NZ before the year is out and we can't wait!

I've always known that I would eventually go back to NZ and I have always been fairly certain that my partner would come with me - just had to give him time. Not that I was rushing to go back home - I love it in the UK and I'm really going to miss it here. I had hoped that my family could have made it over to see and experience all the fantastic places and things to do in this beautiful place and all that it has to offer.

I guess the reason we are going to live in my home country is purely one of me missing my family - visiting every couple of years is not enough anymore. However, we also hope to escape the mad rush and number of people in London - Auckland in comparison is going to be a doddle! Thankfully, the other half is a huge outdoors person, so he couldn't really be going to a better place, eh?

We're both a bit nervous about how it will turn out - leaving our comfort zone of so many years. I think we'll be alright though - we'll basically be living the same life, just in NZ! But if, for whatever reason, it doesn't work out, we may just have to come back to Ol' Blighty and I wouldn't be too upset about that.

Anyway, enough of me, good luck to you all.

I'm the lucky spouse of a Kiwi :yes He's been in the UK for 16 years now, and is looking forward to going back as a lifestyle change - hopefully the move will mean no more computer programming for him, yay! :nice1 I'll be the bread winner.... :hopeso :angel

I've visited 3 times. The first time, I said 'yes, lets retire back here'. 2nd time, 'maybe we should think about coming sooner than retirement'. Then in Feb this year, 'hey, lets do it right now!'. :yes Hubby has never put any pressure on me, he's just been waiting patiently :clap  :P

Now we are just waiting for our house to sell :hopeso and we'll be off! I think in a lot of ways, thanks to forums like this, I'm more prepared for the move than he is! Last night, as we were snug and cosy with our central heating on, I reminded him that we more than likely wouldn't have that luxury (at least not to start with) in NZ and maybe we should turn it off and start toughening up :laugh :laugh :laugh He's been away so long I think it's him that has the rose tinted specs on!!

Your hubby sounds like mine. Never been any pressure to move back to NZ. Like you, each time we've been over there on holiday we've bouth the moving date forward.

As for the central heating, I know what you mean !!

We'll also be going as soon as the house sells. Where will you be going to?

Good luck.

Hi, Dinnaefash and Diny,

Interesting, interesting. Just like the both of you, my DH never pressured me or even mentioned wanting to move back to NZ, until I was sort of mulling the idea over one day.. then he turned into Wiley E. Coyote, lighting a big rocket under his rump!! He's soooo ready to go back to that lifestyle. Well, what he remembers that lifestyle to be -- and I guess we'll see how accurate that is. In the intervening 22 years, let's hope some things have changed!!

It will be great to all compare notes when we've made the shift, don't you think?

Richard, I'm so pleased you're taking your Jag!! I've heard they're worth a fortune in NZ, because such cars are so rare. We chose to part with our own baby car, recently sold to a very grateful buyer (who I fervently hope doesn't kill himself in it in the next week), but I'll always wonder if it was the right decision. Hope your move is progressing smoothly!!

All the best, Rae

Well, there's more of us than I thought, and I bet there's more lurking in the wings!
Looks like I'm winning the "overstayer" title so far though, with Richard the Jag coming a close second.
I took off from Wellington 24 years ago in June of 1980 and have spent most of that time in Britain, with a good few years in Aussie as well.
I think I will be feeling like a stranger in my own home town when we get there though.
Been back for brief visits every 5 years or so, but I'm under no illusions that everything will have moved on by a 1/4 century. Just hope I can fit in as well as a lot of emmigrants I've read about here, have.
Soon2b, Wahine, Dinnae & Raeven.... I daresay you'd have loads in common with my poor long-suffering significant other!
Cracking handle btw, Wahine.....any of you other true blue brits & yanks know the story of the Wahine? Come to that, how about Tangiwai.
I've strayed into a history lesson.............

No... do tell!

Where will you be going to?

Somewhere around the Waikato I think, we want to be fairly central. Possibly towards Raglan, or even the other way to Coromandel; we did really like Waihi, too. We'll rent in the Waikato and start looking from there! :hopeso

Wahine & Tangiwai .... I know I know !!!! However, I have inside information from PB.

2 real life stories which which got me glues to my seat when I saw programs about them on TV.

If you have any difficulty finding the info - let me know - I'll be happy to tell.

Hi Rae

I have been driving Jags for around 16 years now so having seen the price of them whilst we were in NZ over Xmas it was a no brainer to take mine with me. Judging by the wages in NZ it might be the last one I own though :wah :wah :wah

All being well we should exchange on the house in the next week or two then Tanya will go in to manic mode booking shippers, cat movers, flights etc. :angel

Hi Richard

I'm very impressed with Tanya - how come she'll only get into panic mode once you complete on the house? I admire that. I've been in panic mode for eons and our house hasn't even had an offer made on it yet.

Enjoy the Jag in NZ - you'll stand out from the crowd in it !!!!!

All the best.

Hi, Diny,

Tanya is amazing. A quick review of her posts will show you that -- another one of ENZ's best kept secret treasures!! That girl can ferret out information like nobody else, and she's very generous in sharing it with others. She's been a world of help to me.

Richard, I'll be looking for you in your Jag each time we're tootling around Christchurch in our new Beatermobile.. we may not have anything else yet in NZ, but we have a car! Long story short, husband's brother scrounged up this goodie for visiting relatives to use while they were touring the South Island.. it's since been passed from family member to family member and now awaits our arrival in Blenheim in all its hideous glory. All I know is that it's old, a station wagon and turns heads because it is so horrid looking! I promise to honk at you at the stoplights!

We'll look forward to hearing updates on the exchange and can't wait to hear when you are off!!

All the best, Rae
