We recently decided to move to NZ. But this is a long story, which I'd like to share. There are still many questions.

When I was 18 I went to Australia backpacking. I stayed on a student visa for another 5,5 years. Two years ago I had to get back to the Netherlands, cause I ran out of money and couldn't pay for a PR. I was elligeble, have 130 points!

Here I met my partner, we're together for 1,5 years exactly on this day. I wanted to go back to australia, never had wanted to come back to the Netherlands actually. He wanted to come. unfortunatly, cause I waited to long, I needed 1 year workexperience to be elligible for a visa. I couldn't find work here and went back to study. That was a bad idea as it litterly made me sick. I went back to work on the 1st of october. So October 1st 2009 I will apply for a PR in Australia.

But the rules are changing and this visa might take 2 years to get still. We went to a migration fair. There we checked out New Zealand and I realised I am still alowed to get a work and holliday visa. My partner could come on a holliday visa, which meant we could stay there for 9 months.
But as my skills are wanted, I can apply for a PR as soon as I get a job. This means we could stay in NZ until we get the OZ visa! and never have to be in NL ever again! (needless to say, we hate it here).

We got 2 cats, who now probably can't come. Besides that it is very expensive to put them in quarantine, it wouldn't be fair on them to move them twice.

So now the questions!
how to go about the visa? where to live? how to find a job? what to take with us? what to leave behind till we get to OZ? How to make sure I don't get too exited and buy a plainticket tomorrow? :D What to do with taxes, banks, and other things that need proper organisation?
What to do the first weeks in NZ?

Now, I've emigrated 4 times in my live already, so I know we'll be fine and things will work out. But it is scarier this time for some reason.

Anyway, this is enough of a long story so far.

Bye,

Noet

The first link tells you how to set about getting a working holiday visa. The second link is the starting place for information about all other kinds of visa.

As to all the other questions, you'll need to research where you are most likely to find work. Then you'll be able to move on to specifics.

That link is about moving animals. There are people on the forum who have taken their animal family members to several different countries with them. I have a neighbour here in the UK who has lived at two different periods of her life in NZ, and her cat was born in NZ, came to the UK, went back to NZ and now is back in the UK again. It doesn't have to be a problem for the animal.

Hi Noet, welcome to the forum. :D
I can't really help with your questions as the links above give pretty much everything you need but good luck with your plans, and if Oz is really what you want, I hope you get there!
