Well we are just a few weeks short of hopefully exchanging contracts on our house yay!!::clap

But then we heard today that my husband will be made redundant in May:wah
Why is it when something goes good something has to go wrong too!! it's just not fair.
Ok we will be emigrating if all goes well but we were half expecting for hubby to have a job up until we went.
I know we should not moan as we are in a fortunate position of (fingers crossed ) selling our house with a bit of cash left over but........oh I'm just feeling sorry for myself sorry to moan. ( we cannot afford to bring our beloved dog with us to NZ I keep crying about this :wah)

and I just got our Gas and Electricity bill through too!!!
Woe is me ....lol

HI Ada

((((Hugs))))

My hubby was made redundant last Friday too! We had hoped that he would remain employed until he went too.....now he has just gone to sign on! I know that this will eat into our savings when we had hoped to be able to add to them a little before we went out.

Hope that they both find something soon.

Love

My mum always says things happen for a reason!!
I know she is right and thanks to her we will be moving in with her so we will still be able to save at least a little something hopefully. We dont have a great deal of money ourselves and looks as though I will have to work more hours myself.
Hubby will get 14years worth of redundancy, which should see us ok for a little while but like you we wanted to save!

I hope your husband finds work soon too.
Keep your chin up, cyber hugs and positive thoughts to you both:)

Hey Adacakes whats your time line for moving could you not bring it forward? also with the house sold why not go into the cheapest accomodation you can look at it as temp solution this would keep your expenditure down, if you are running two cars get rid of one if only one working look at this as a solution not a problem also you can pass all the chores re moving/emigrating to him! as well as the day to day household ones!

Thanks Ada & Co for the hugs.

Hopefully we will get there...still he is not going to linger and reckons that he will spend some time getting the house done for the market....here's hoping!

How long does it take after exchanging contracts in the UK to actually not be a homeowner anymore? Here it can be as little as 3 days. In the US we signed contracts and handed over keys in 2 weeks.

I got made redundant in the US in May 2007. It was expected after 2 threats before ( :( ), one of which when I was 7 months pregnant, oh how lovely that was grrrrr.

Everything really does happen for a reason, I swear. :)

You've exchanged contracts, hubby will get a payout and unemployment afterwards until you go - I would say it's great timing! :) I got made redundant at the end of May in 2007, and we sold our house at the end of September.

You can do it! :nice1

It's possible to exchange and complete on the same day in the UK

Thanks everyone you are all really supportive and for that I say a big thankyou.

My mum (an angel) has said we will only have to make a tiny contribution to stay there because I will be there during the day ( I work evenings) doing the housework and the ironing. sounds good to me.

anyway the contract has been signed now and sent back to the solicitor ready for exchange, so within the next week we should have a completion date and we can start packing frantically, We have put it off so far I didn't want to temp fate.

Ada, sorry to hear about the job situation. Good news on the house! The wifey(PonyGirl) and I are going through about the same situation. She lost her job in January, and we had planned for her to keep it close to when we planned to leave(hopefully Aug 1st) and combined with that ended up with a $1,000USD energy bill, thanks to the utility company under charging us for the last year. 1 step forward, 1 step back it seems. Hope all goes well with job situation! These things have a way of getting better. ;)
