Well we had our interview today... not very happy with my case officer's response.

1. We were told to fill and email a detailed questionnaire before interview, which we did earlier.

2. I was told that I did not updated them about my job, so I forwarded my previous email again.

3. She than asked me to send them my updated experience certificates. I immediately scanned and emailed them, but they only accept original or authorized copy. Another bother and waste of money on DHL

4. My partner was also interviewed, her work experience history was also requested in another email.

5. The most interesting part was, when she told us that the decision will take 3 months..:uhoh

Are they scaring me ? :exit
Or seriously considering PR.

:wah or :bluebanana ?

Any one else requested for extra document after interview or anyone interviewed twice?

Sorry to hear that the CO gave you hard time. I do not have the answer to your question, but wanted to ask you a question.

Why did they interview your partner? Have you claimed some points for her education or experience? I thought they interview only the principle applicant.

Wish you all the best and hope you will receive PR at the end.

Victoria24 :
Our case in famous Shanghai office.

np2nz:

My partner had 20 points contribution, but those were not required.

In my ITA, they stated as

" Your points entitlement are as follows:
o 25 for age
o 55 for qualifications
o 10 for qualification in an Area of Absolute Skills Shortages
o 10 for work experience

This is a total of 100 points which meets the criteria current at the time your EOI was selected on 26 September 2007."

Even I reminded them month ago, they never asked for the stuff, which they need now. Lets hope for the best.

Anyone else with similar situation?

I was interviewed at the same office sometime back and was told to wait for 3 months for the decision. She has asked no further documents or evidences yet. God knows what is taking so long to them to approve or disapprove the application. Running with the application since late 2007. :nice1

dd311, you mean you were actually at Shanghai for the interview? I thought it is thru phone? Who was the case officer who interviewed you? I'm getting confused. At first, I thought it is one month to know the result but what happened to two of our friends here ???????

It was phone interview. Ms Wu took the interview.

Same Ms Wu took my interview. There was a nice Kiwi name Alex, but he left Shanghai office. Ms Wu previously told us that our case will be finalized before 22/04/09. Now she added 2 more month for decision, then if she give us WTR, we will spend couple more months in WTR relevant documentation.

We are almost not excited anymore...
Well, if they are hanging us longer for PR, we can understand their concerns.
Currently we are in the middle of nothing.

Notarized True copies mailed via DHL today.

Partner's work history emailed.

Wish they do not ask for something new.. ;)

Wow, it's another shocker to me that Syed's ITA submitted one year ago and only now the interview granted.......really confused. What happened, Syed? I thought it is max 6 months to get the interview???

Wish u very good luck Syed! I m really surprised to hear that u got interview after a year. I m from Pakistan and submitted my ITA with Beijing branch on 10th April 2008, got interview in July and now waiting for the decision. My CO updated me 5 months earlier that they are doing character checks in New Zealand and thats why will take long. I never been to NZ so why character checks in NZ but they can do whatever they want so no idea...........

Please keep us updated.

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/branch/ShanghaiBranchHome/processingtimes/

Skilled migrant applicants without job offers

Once your application is accepted for consideration your case will be allocated to a visa officer within three months. If you have supplied all the documentation requested when you were invited to apply for residence, the processing time may take up to 12 months.

Processing times may vary depending on whether further documentation is required or if there are any medical conditions or character issues that need assessment.

Please note that as you are applying for residence without a skilled job offer from a New Zealand employer, it may be necessary to perform a settlement and contribution interview. These can take time to plan and while we endeavour to complete these interviews and follow up assessment within our timeframes, they can take longer to finalise.

-----------------------------------
For us it is taking longer. COs never bother themselves and do not even look carefully into our documents and emails. After interview and a whole one year, they then realize, that something can be requested to delay thing further.

IN THE INZ SHANGHAI STATEMENT
"..... while we endeavour to complete these interviews and follow up assessment within our timeframes, they can take longer to finalise. ......"

THE LAST PART IS APPLYING ON US ..

:-)
We still have a month till 22/04/09...
and we are still optimistic.

Perhaps they have different set of standards for Asians and Europeans. INZ are not ‘equal service providers. ‘ :wah

I remember you only need to update them about your work experience or certificates if you only need to do so. So if you have changed jobs or attained additional qualifications between the time you submitted your documents during the processing stage and interviewing stage, you need to update them.

Even after you passed the interview stage and already were invited to apply for PR, you still need to inform them. I remember my hubby switching to another school after accepting the PR and we still had to send employment details to the case office.

As for the interview, it is quite regular that they interview partners even though they have no points input into the application. I was interviewed for about 10 mins and the questions were quite neutral. Basically asking us questions about our ability to fit in, into NZ. I remember the interview getting off to a slight tangent when I mention about certain facts and details about NZ.......just to impress her, which must have. We got our reply in 2 weeks.

I do not agree. It is unrealistic for me to generalize in such a way.
I know a french and a British spending a year or more in Beijing and Shanghai office. If you calculate the population which these offices cover, you will know the exact reason. INZ/NZQA also depend on various responses from home countries, which also slow the process.

Good luck :)

I agree with dd311 that INZ has different standards for Europeans and Asians and they do have it for a reason. There is a list of high risk countries according to INZ and applicants from those countries are going through extra checks and scrutiny. There is also (IPG) immigration profiling groups which do further screenings on applicants from some countries. so now you know why dd311 said that muti-standard thing.

I also understands the burden on these offices as they r covering large populations but I think thats not the only reason for delay.

You got it 200% right malangjan :clap. My point understood well. So people from such countries should apply as soon as they are born, on their very first birthday they fill out EOI. And wait till they get married. On their first child birthday they would lodge ITA. And before going to heaven send passports for Visa. :bluebanana

hi syed,
My case was assessed in shanghai branch as well and the period it took to get the wtr after itnerviewing was around 6 months for me :P

just be patient, it will be your turn someday. I am int he midst of preparing the documentations for the WTR (which is much simple if compared to ITA) I just don't know how to tell my boss I am leaving soon. I prefer not to say until confirmed getting the WTR signed.
