Otherwise, no. It's possible to fool the iPlayer, but highly tricky.

We are in the same position but we have found a website that streams the race live..... broadcast is only available minutes before the live race.

The quality is a bit naff but depending on your broadband connection you get a constant stream with good audio and narration from the Martin Brundle and co.

The great thing is NO ADVERTS!!!!! enjoy

The live timing at http://www.formula1.com/services/live_timing/ is quite cool to follow whilst the race is on too.

Not now, it's easy (for 5 quid a month / 50 quid a year): www.adtelly.tv

Works really well.

Hmm. Talisker, have you tried this service? It's just that there's no way to demo the thing for quality, and you can't access the forum until you've subscribed (to see what problems people are getting). Also, the forum seems awfully light on posts, suggesting there aren't many users. Also, if you click on the main page link to the FAQ, you get a 'no such page' error, which isn't a great start.

Just wondering if you've actually seen it working yourself.

Okay I was able to access the forum without subscribing, so that bit's all good.

People should note that bandwidth restrictions are quite severe for most ISPs in NZ (Telecom are absolute stinkers for limiting bandwidth), so streaming TV may not be a realistic option. There may be some ISPs who are less stingy - I haven't done a a survey :)

Yes, it's legit - I've installed it and it works really well. The whole registration thing is a bit convoluted. You can register for free for the forums, but as you say there isn't much there because they had a bit of a clean out recently. To download the toolbar and use the service you need to subscribe, but you can do this for 5 quid a month and it doesn't auto-renew, so not bad to try it out. Once you've paid via paypal you get a code by email which lets you download the toolbar and activate it. It works really well. You can watch already-broadcast programs via iPlayer, but for some reason I don't think live BBC TV works in iPlayer. Instead there's a live TV option on the toolbar (I think it used catchuptv) which lets you watch all the main UK channels live. It works perfectly - great quality. I've come across a bug with the toolbar, which I believe affects macs more than PCs, where when you go back into Firefox after installing the toolbar it doesn't let you connect to any website. This is easily fixed by fiddling with the proxy setting in Firefox, and adtelly released a bug fix to the latest toolbar yesterday, which might well fix it. Anyway, it's not a biggie. I'll have to check out the full BBC coverage for this weekend's grand prix.

Maybe you could define legit?

AFAIK, this site breaks the terms of the BBC TV License and I would expect them to do their best to shut it down.

So by all means try it, not sure IMO that it would be a good idea to pay a years subscription though.

It's legit in as much as you do get a working service delivered for the money you pay. I suppose the BBC could get it shut down, not sure if they really care that much however. Agree that a monthly sub is probably the way to go, though. Out of interest, the bandwidth requirements appear pretty reasonable. Watching a program on iPlayer appears to use around 2-3MB per minute or so (very approximately).

WMRecorder can record to file most rtsp streams.

I wrote my own app to do this as a group of us watch football at a local pub and we were having real issues with constant buffering.
