The first thing I look at everytime I go to this website is the application timings. I was amazed that some people got their PR in a month. I submitted my EOI last February and was selected on March 2, 2005. I felt confident that I will given an ITA rightaway because I only claimed points for categories which I can easily prove. But 1 month after and my status is still selected. I have seen post by other people selected on March 2 and they are already decision successful. How does NZIS rank or prioritize the verification of EOI that cause the huge variation in the issuance of ITA?

Welcome to posting to the forum, and good to have you on board.
Most (even all) of the fast-tracked cases have to do with the applicants having a job offer. The thinking is that NZ employers are waiting, and you'll find almost universal thinking amongst all applicants that this is fair enough a form of prioritization.
Discrepancies between non-job-offer-EOI timings are probably best explained by what might generally be termed the "human element". That is, differerent processing speeds as a result of the work methods of different officers. I think that there has been some talk, some of it perhaps from "horse's mouth" NZIS staff, that non-job EOIs are sub-queued according to total number of points. That is, an EOI of 120 points being looked at before an EOI of 105 points, say. But anecdote and experience suggests this either doesn't happen or if it does, that, again, different assessing officers get through their piles faster than do others... whatever order those piles are put in to start with.
Another element seems to be the NZIS branch dealing with any given EOI. But even then timings can even out, at least to an extent, in the long run. For example, I seem to recall quite a few Asian (Bangkok-processed??) EOIs getting Decision Successful pretty promptly, only for the applicants to wait a bit longer than applicants being processed in London for their interviews and final decisions. This may be wrong: don't quote me. But you get the idea.
Finally, it seems to be that ITAs are getting issued faster these days, after equally speedy conversions to Decision Successful, possibly because ITA-sending seems now to be divvied up between some NZ-based branches as well as, say, the London branch. So you might well get ITA fairly soon if and when your EOI is Successful.

Matt.

I might add, by the way, as there is a very reasonable theme of 'hopeful waiting' to this thread :yes , that we got PR with 115 points, no job offer, and without the principal applicant being in an obvious "heavy hitter" priority profession. (That is, my wife's work area as a dance educator is extremely skilled, she has an MA, and the dance population can be complex in terms of injury prevention and just plain human handling... but in NZIS terms her job category is not on their two priority lists, nor has her education or experience been in NZ. We are Future Growth, but got no tangible increase in points for this. She slotted pretty well into some NZIS 'boxes' -- e.g., not having to get her quals assessed -- but we didn't qualify for any bonus points, unless you count my qual, even after the December amendments.)
We waited a little over 5 months from Selected to the thumbs-up e-mail from our case officer.
So, as long as NZIS didn't make a huge mistake with our application (!), it can be done. Maybe just preparing as well as one can, at all stages, is a good policy while one waits. And this forum is massively valuable in this regard.
Cheers,
Matt.

Welcome to the forum AR, hope you'll find it as helpful as we have found it :nice1
Matt has more or less already covered what I was going to say. Unfortunately one thing that we've learnt as part of this process, is that PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE is required, at many stages :uhoh Hope you'll hear something soon.
Just out of interest, would you mind putting some more details on your profile, like which part of the world you currently live in.
Best of luck
Babette

Thanks for the info. Maybe the best thing for me is to wait and just be patient which reminds me of the recent 100% pure nz ad with the jingle that says "if you've been waiting you've been waiting too long." I have been looking at the other threads and what really caught my attention is that some people are having financial difficulty even in Auckland. Some even went back to UK after spending few years in NZ. My main reason for applying for migration to NZ is to look for a better life and their experience really made me think twice about my decision. I guess we create our own destiny and it basically depends on how we manage our lives and the choices we make.
