Hi,

Looking for information, i am sure someone can point me in the right direction?

We are working in NZ on a WTR and we are a couple of months away from the 2 year point. At which time we will apply for PR, question, how do i get our police checks completed while living in NZ? is there a web site i can visit to get this sorted....also is it worth using the services of an immigration expert to complete this application or is the process of moving from WTR to PR after 2 years pretty straight forward?

OK assuming you are from the UK.

Go to your UK police force's website. Find the 'Subject Access' or 'Freedom Of Information' link and there will be a downloadable form that you must fill out in person and send by post back, with the fee. It needs to be signed so you have to post.

There is normally nothing complex about the process of applying for PR.

Yes we are from UK, thanks for the information, so once i attain Police records and get medicals done the rest is the WTR to PR pretty much a formality?

Ok have not done the WTR to PR, just the PR and that was simple enough.

SIL did the WTR -> PR route and she managed herself so must be a piece of p@@s.

Actually the above info is now out of date, you now need the ACPO Police Certificates (http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp)

Sorry you are still wrong...

From the immigration website:-
Scotland
Police certificates from the Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland (ACPO) also cover Scotland. All citizens and residents of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including those resident in Scotland) should apply through ACPO.

Thought in Scotland you could still apply to your local force.

From the immigration website

All applicants aged 17 years or over must provide police certificates at the time a residence application is lodged unless there is a different instruction in the country-specific information (see below).

Don't see any other instrutions

You can raise a bank draft in sterling to ACPO and post that with the form. I think anyone aver 17 requires a police cert

All over 17's also need a Police Check for any country where you have been living for more than 12 months or more in the last 10 years no matter what age you were whislt you were there.

We had to get a police check for my daughter from Germany despite the fact she left there when she was 8, and therefore below the age of legal responsibility. Strange rule?

Remember that Police checks are only valid for 6 months and medicals for 3 months so make sure you get your applications in time (I've heard of people missing by a week or so and having to do them all over again)

For your original question, AFAIK you need to check out Residence from Work (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/residencefromwork/) and review the application form (NSIS1000) and also the guide to filling it in.

It all looks straight forward to me, but if not then I guess you could go with an immigration agent.

BTW, I assume that you have a 30 month WTR so you have 6 months to get the application processed. Hopefully it will be through in time but there was someone on the forum (IIRC) who ran into problems due to how long it took to process. So my advice would be to get the application complete and in ASAP after your 2 year aniversary.
