Hi all.

I'm Del I have just turned 30 and would love to move to NZ. It is something that I have been thinking of for a couple of years. I'm a class2 driver and my job is quite secure over here in the UK as I work for the local council. I'm just really emailing to see how many people managed to get residency with just HGV as a skill. My wife is a book keeper.

I have been to NZ twice as my wife has an Aunt living just outside Hamilton. Though I think I would like to move to the South island.

I'm reluctant to go to New Zealand with a temporary visa as it would mean selling my House here in the uk and starting over again if we didn't get residency.

Del

Hello, Del, and welcome. :)

You'll probably get some comments and suggestions when the NZ people wake up.

Hello Del. We came to NZ 6-7months ago on a Work To Residence (WTR) Talent visa. My OH was an NVQ assessor (on leaving the RAF, where he worked in mechanical transport), but unable to obtain a similar position for visa purposes. He managed however, to secure a job utilising his dangerous goods licence, and finding an accredited employer. He is now driving fuel tankers around the NI. We did not have enough points, by a long way, to apply for PR and found the WTR was ideal for us. The hardest part though is securing employment with an accredited employer who is going to pay $55K minimum for 40hr week. It was only $50k when we applied, but was still hard because the salary requirement can't take into account all the additions for shift allowance, Auckland weighting etc. etc.

I have read, on another forum, that HGV roles are being looking into and 'they' (whoever 'they' are, although I have a feeling 'they' are something to do with Land Transport?) are pushing for it to be put on the LTSSL, which would be great.

Good luck
Lx

Hi Del
I have been here for 2 years truck driving and know of drivers that have PR but they can never give you a clear explanation how they got it!
I don't know any companies on the SI that would pay you $55k for 40hrs, so if you can get a WTR you are very fortunate.
Wages on SI range from $16-$20/hr. Tanker/Fuel companies pay a little bit more but probably not the $26.50/hr you would require for WTR.
I have also heard of Work Permits being refused due to the current economic climate.
Sorry if it all sounds like bad news but its better to be told now than find out when you have sold up and moved here.
Steve

I think that I will most likely hold out for a year and most likely try to get my class 1 over here. I'm visiting NZ again next year so I will look up some accredited companys and arrange some visits to them if I can.

Thanks for all of the replys

I believe that the equivalent to an ADR? in NZ is obtained in a weekend.
