So we will not be looking for jobs for a year since we have to finish those pesky degrees. But we have been looking just to a get a sense of what is available. In OH's field (natural resources management and ecological sciences) I have seen three or four positions. This seems low to me, but I have no idea what the competition is like. Are there just fewer jobs, but less competition, or are there fewer jobs and just as much competition? What is the job market like right now? How long does it usually take people to find a job? When is a good time to start looking if we cannot move before August 2010? Sorry can you tell I am a planner.

its a much smaller job market in all respects, at the moment as te recession nibbles at the edges there is more competition for some roles, but generally there's just less people so everythng is on a smaller scale :)

most employers will want to interview face to face, although a few will accept skype interviews, agencies also want to see people before putting them forward for roles, so it's much easier to do if you are aready on the ground.
