Has anyone on here had the experience of just getting on a plane, pitching up in NZ on a visitors visa and spend the time job searching 'on the ground'? We would have sufficient funds to support us for way beyond the 6 months of the visitors visa and would have no plans to work, until we applied for a proper work visa (or LTBV, depending on what opportunities arose :nice1)

Would the fact that we already have valid visas (me a WTR visa, OH with work visa and son with student visa - all on the family stream) ring any alarm bells with them when we try to come in on a visitors visa? Obviously we can't use the visas we already have because the job with the accredited employer is no more. We wouldn't want any surprises when we arrived :uhoh

We would also be using the time to have a serious recce, in terms of regions/locations and potential jobs and/or business opportunities.

And what if we submitted a LTBV application before we went - would that complicate matters further with immigration when we arrive, or would we just need to explain the logic of what we were doing?

I would talk to NZIS about your situation as it is unusual.

The reason that I say this is that when you arrive in NZ you don't get to choose the type of permit that you are given i.e. you can't ask for a visitor permit, you get one that matches your visa.

Immigration are likely to assume that you are using your WTR visa and expect to give you a work permit, but then they may realise that your WTR is no longer valid and whilst they may just then give you a visitor permit instead they may not. Or even worse, they may let you in on your WTR which of course you shouldn't do either.

You are likely to be very tired from your flight and unable to think straight, not a good time to have any issues with entering the country.

well, we've bitten the bullet and have written to our CO this evening to let her know the suituation (with the withdrawal of the accredited job offer, etc) and asked for her advice on what we can do next. So, we'll see what happens now :uhoh
