This has propbably been posted before, But We for one had looked at relocating overseas before the LOR films and NZ was one of the options, But I must say the LOR films did such a marvelous job depicting the beauty of NZ that helped cement the thought in our heads.

I didn't see LOTR until the 3rd one came out.
But yeah it's now one of the main reasons i'd watch the movies.
I took my daughter to see the Prince Caspian movie and when it was real quite they say
"we are back in Narnia" my 6 year old daughter shouts "no their not, they are in New Zealand"

I'd say Eagle V's Shark had more of an influence for us.
That and Billy Connolly.

LotR opened some interest and conversation.
Our friends went to visit her dad and every time we watched LotR after that they'd say "OOh we've been there!" So we had to visit too of course:)
So I guess you could say the movies got the ball rolling for us.

We are big LOTR fans and I love seeing the scenery. It did make me want to visit, but the choice to move was based on a lot of other things.

Then I throw an Atlas at them.
(We had some French visitors just after our last trip to NZ, and of course, conversation turned to where we'd been and what we'd been doing. After a couple of days, the lady came to me with her diary, which turned out to have several pages dedicated to maps of the world in it. Holding it out open at the pages dedicated to Scandinavia, she said, 'Show me exactly where it is your son lives?')

I remember as a child (very embarassing) but I just thought it was a brand name.
New Zealand Lamb.
I didn't know NZ was a place...:o
I still think the same about Danish Bacon.

LoTR nearly put me off, all those orcses wandering around. It's no good having wonderful scenery if you have to weild a magic sword just to hew your way through the fell creatures trying to stop you sneaking into Mordor...
Ahem.

Er...that's a little difficult to answer innit? Watch a trailer on Youtube and decide for yourself :) Given that you've lived without them this long...

Did not see the films until we flew back to UK with Air New Zealand in 2007 when we had already decided to emigrate. We watched all 3 films on the long flight from Hong Kong to London, sure made the time go fast. Still need to go and buy DVDs so we can watch them on something a bit bigger than the screens on the plane. Though won't have cabin crew offering me another glass of Pinot Noir for nothing if I do......!!

We first visited NZ after the 2nd LOTR instalment so we pretty much were aware of how BIG the movie trilogy was and how everybody was excited about it. I think in the end the movie helped to promote tourism; Singaporeans wanting to visit NZ.
We actually didn't go to any of the LOTR tours and spots where the movie was short unless you count the time we flew to view Mt Cook.
For us it was just coincidental that the movie was showing during the time we made a fundamental decision to migrate either to Australia or NZ. In the end it was probably a 1% :D decision based on the movie because it made us appreciate the depth and beauty of the country.
