Any tips on finding and getting post doc work in NZ. OH is in the ecological sciences. He has started doing some literature searches to see where similar reseach is being done as well as looking at the different research institutes at universitys. He also has looked at previous post doc position offerings to see what is offered. Should he just cold email people, or is there a better route? Any advice on getting jobs in academia. He would also be interested in lectureships, but thought having a post doc first would increase his chances. He finishes with his PhD next April, but he wanted to start early.

I would look at labs of interest and email a CV to them directly. Also ask people you know already if they happen to have any contacts out in NZ, that worked for me! I know funding is tight everywhere at the moment so you may have to write a grant for a fellowship. Best thing is to decide on where and who with and hope they can help you along with the process. There are postdocs advertised on seek.co.nz under education-university too.
I emailed a guy in chch in reply to an advertised job who said to get back to him later in the year because I was ideal for the lab but he had no funding yet (I have six years PD experience by the way). So all you can do is ask!
Get sending that CV and good luck
