I've looked up some that were listed (and now can't find the list:o) and found these places that might be close-ish to where I'm living...
Does anyone else go to these places? Good experience? Bad experience?
Also, what does Capital PHO mean?!
Thanks!

Forget Plimmer Surgery you have to diagnose yourself most of the time.

That comment makes me really sad, OMG who'd be a doctor, you have no idea just how hard they work, or how committed they are.
I have doctors in the family, I know at least a dozen of them. If your not a Doctor and you really believe you can diagnose yourself, your seriously misguided!
I was told a story the other week from a very uspet friend. Some woman hald walked into the surgery and anounced that the only reason the doctor advised that they should immunise their child was because they got paid t do it...
Yup the grand sum of $18, lets talk about money,,,, lets not account for the $3,000 fridge, the nurses wages, the cost of drug audits. In fact it costs the GP to immunise your kid, its actually written off as a business expense. Some jumped up tart left this doctor feeling awful "how could they think I'd do that" was the comment.
I'll tell you something else I wouldn't get out of bed for their salary relative to the hours and stress.
Hay angel I don't know if your from the UK, but I'll point this out, when was the last time you saw an English doctor in the UK.... they are actually leaving in drones because (among many things) the abuse they get there. We have a good deal of them here and when I meet them I tip my hat to them with the respect they deserve.
They aren't well paid, a lot is asked of them, and they keep doing it because they care, a hard concept for most of us, including me because quite honestly I don't give a dam about ungrateful demanding people!

I should have explained more but I do think your reply Bob the engineer was a little harsh to say the least.
Each time I go I have to come up with ideas of what it might be as she never seems to be forthcoming. Yes I am from the UK and despite the long hours most doctors there are wonderful to their patients.
I went in recently with a blood clot that had formed on the back of my throat after sneezing. It was late so I googled for similar photos etc as I was extremely worried having had a brain haemorrhage at the age of 27. When I got to the doctor the following morning she had no suggestions. I asked if it was X and she said Oh I never thought of that maybe we should take a blood test. I know there is a lot for them to remember but she never seems to remember any of them:laugh
I have allergies since arriving I had to keep asking her for test to see what was causing it. Finally she tested me and low and behold I have a test result that my antihistamine level hit the roof. The nurse is better and comes up with ideas that she should come up with.
Its hard starting at a new practice with a huge history to repeat I just think that this forum is to help people who have arrived and I am basically not recommending anyone should go there. I was waiting to hear if anyone was going to recommend their doctor so I could change myself.

Good reply, Bob, I have to say. I know of too many doctors and nurses who despair at people showing up stating they've looked up their symptoms on WebMD or Google, and then start claiming they know better than the doctor. I think not! Colbert-style, a huge tip-o'-the-hat to all in the medical profession out there, wherever they be based.

Don't you think that it was harsh?
As with all professions there are some doctors that are better than others both here in NZ and anywhere else.
Angelonthemove wasn't complaining about the profession in general but bad experiences with one in particular.

You should just ask for a copy of your charts to be sent to the new doctor of your choice (or get a copy to take to a new doctor). If they ask why be honest.

Sorry Angel, I didn't intend to be harsh.
I do see the other side of the coin frequently, but that doesn't really relate to you.
I do believe what I said about our doctors being under appreciated to be true.
What I wrote about ungrateful selfish people really wasn't aimed at you, it was more a general thing.
again I'm sorry if I came across as harsh.
best wishes Bob

Forum posts and emails can be taken the wrong way, apology accepted.
I think the reason we have got in the habit of googling our ailments is because in Cyprus (lived there for 4 years) they have no doctors that don't want to inspect your private parts for any illness and I mean even if you have a bad ear ache :laugh
Over there you go to the chemist and she prescribes your medicine as long as it not addictive. that is how it works. We had to travel for 2 hours to visit a female American doctor to get a diagnosis. So NZ is 9/10 compared to that.

average GP salary in the UK is £80K+. However there are many on £100k. Not a bad wage even if you do get some stress. I also respect their job.
