Does anyone know if a person's credit rating has a bearing on immigration? I'm submitting my EOI for skilled migrant category, but have credit issues. Could my application be rejected if I have bad credit?

Unless you have a criminal record because of writing bad cheques etc then No.
And your credit rating it will probably not follow you to NZ

you start again in NZ but some jobs may credit check you and you may need some bank statements for a mortgage.

Unless you are going to buy with a mortgage straight away then the bank statements are likely to be NZ ones, so they wouldn't be a problem from a credit check perspective.

I work for a bank in NZ and they checked out my credit in the US, where I'd lived for the 12 years prior to moving to NZ. They also checked into any criminal background (so glad I kept my nose clean / didn't get caught when I was young and stupid! :laugh ) and that took a small age. Didn't actually know they were doing it until my boss said it was OK, they don't have to deport me. :laugh

WOW!! We didn't need ANY statements for ours! Which was quite good really as I think we only brought 1 or 2 with us due to a rather over enthusiastic encounter with the shredder. We just needed a letter from OH's employer on headed paper saying yep we employ him, he's lovely (or something like that!)

M-Squared,
Was that credit check done by your employer or by Immigration NZ? I accept that bad credit can affect my ability to buy real estate and maybe get certain jobs. My concern is more on the Immigration side.

As far as I am aware NZ immigration do not do a credit check.

Most (if not all) banks do the same in the UK.
