Pakeha Boy asked about the breed of my dogs, so here goes (sorry it took so long Pakeha Boy!).

Tugger: German or Dutch Shepard/Great Dane Mix
Sadie: Some sort of Border Collie/Corgie/Shepard/Terrier Mix
Buster: Beagle-Basset Hound
Pooch: Cutest darn domestic short hair ever
Baby: Pyschotic (but sweet and been with me forever) domestic smooth long hair

My babies (except Buster, see below) will be staying at Qualified Pet Services during their quarantine, from about Jan 6 to about Feb 7 2005. If any of you have kids in quarantine during that same time, let me know! I will be visiting my babies often and would be love to meet yours at the same time!

So, if you want to see my sweeties, here they are:

Just select the "Our Babies" album.

Unfortunately, Buster cannot come with us due to his age (would not tolerate trip or quarantine well) and besides his other Mommy won't even consider letting him go, so we have to leave him behind! :wah We love you Buster and will miss you to pieces. :(

Hi Melissa,
I can't open your link right now because of my work filter, but will look at them later. My husband is planning on staying for a month near the quarantine place, can you suggest anything? Since our house is down south, it is too much of a commute, so he is just going to rent something for a month to visit the pooches. Thanks! :cool

Hi SoCal Gal,

The quarantine facility is in a suburb of Auckland called Takanini. Takanini is close to Papakura and the country town of Clevedon, as well as Manurewa and Manukau City. I would not recommend staying in Manukau. I will email my friend who lives in Clevedon and see what he recommends. Does your husband want to stay in a hotel or B&B, or what did he have in mind? If he likes the country, I would highly recommend a B&B in Takanini or Clevedon.

Its good to stay in Backpackers hostels too if there is one in the area as you get too meet plenty of people. Don't stay at the one near Onewhere though its a dump.

Thanks, gals, for the good info.....and Melissa, if you would check with your friend, that would be great. I think he is just looking for something efficiently simple and safe, perhaps where he could do some of his own cooking? I think we've pretty much ruled out a campervan in the parking lot of the quarantine facility! ;-o You know how we get about our babies!

No problem, I will check with my friend and get back to you hopefully in the next few days....sometimes he is hard to reach though so bear with me! :cool

SoCal Gal,

I am still working on this one but here is what I found out so far....a motel would probably be your best bet for a place that is not too expensive and has a kitchenette. I am still waiting to get recommendations. My friend says the B&B's in the area are quite expensive $100-200 a night, which would really add up over a 30-day period. He did not seem to know anyone (including himself) who would have a rental house available for just a month. But closer to the time, who knows, if there is a vacancy, maybe they would be pleased to have a renter for a month! So remind me as the time gets closer and I will ask him again.

Sorry this is not more informative....but if and when I get more information I will post it here!

Thanks so much, Melissa, and you know, the way things seem to work in Godzone, I won't be the least bit surprised if we do end up finding someone who would like to have a renter for a month! The most incredible things have happened through this forum! Thanks again!!!
