Rental advice needed in Wellington pls

Hi all

We are due to fly out to Wellington on 19th May for arrival on 21st May. We have paid for the relocation package and they have found us a 2 bedroom property in Wellington that's fully loaded for $1200/week + GST

Is this the normal amount to pay for a short term property as this seems to be quite expensive and will take a fair chunk out of our savings which we would prefer to go easy on and put towards a house.

We don't want to stay in a hotel for short term as we feel we would adjust better in a holiday home type of property, so we are wondering if any of you guys know of any properties that would be gentler on our wallet and available at our time of arrival.
We have a 1 year old and a nearly 3 year old so need it fairly child friendly, and need internet access as we need to be able to search for work (and keep upto date on all the posts).

If we can't find anything else in the next week then we are thinking maybe rent this for 3 weeks max and while we are in there we can go searching for a longer term rental.

If anyone can help by providing us with real estate agents who rent these short term properties or any advise in this area at all we would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks as always

Emma

That seems really steep but then again if it's a hotel it would be about right. But as you say that's eating in to savings that could be going some where better. I would have a look around on the internet and see if you can find something cheaper.

Also have a look at www.holidayhouses.co.nz or www.bookabach.co.nz there should be some properties there for more reasonable money per night. Only thing is I don't know whether they would have an internet connection. Although there are internet cafes around Wellington and most libraries have that facility to. As we're heading in to winter now some properties you might be able to negotiate a longer term rental with as well.

it must be a nice property fo $1200/week

we used www.rentabach.co.nz/wellington.html -we had a choice of two holiday homes one @ $595/week and the other $750/week both included power phone wireless internet and I think Sky TV -also was clean and tidy- also you could try www.bookabach.co.nz

For fully furnished in Central Wellington $1200 seems to be the going rate. Check out Trade Me for some comparisons.

If it's unfurnished you could / should about halve it....well depending on location.

Hi all
Thanks for all the great advise and pointers as always. We are in the middle of box mayhem at the moment as the shippers are in (feel as though we are running through mud with it all) so have decided to rent the relocation company's recommendation for 2 weeks. After this we will find our own (hopefully more reasonably priced) accommodation.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply and speak to you on the other side.:clap

Cheers

If you can, definitely worth trying to negotiate the price down. I looked for a temporary place for one month, after the rental I found was going to take that long, before the current tenants vacated. It's particularly handy if you have an alternative place so you can play them off against one another. I was able to get around 30% off the listed price for a long stay.

Am paying $NZD 910 per week for a one bedroom fully furnished service apartment, which is nicely decked out inside, right in the middle of Welly (on the Terrace).
