Dear all,

Back on the site after a period of enforced absence, now known as "Wannaway" (basically forgot previous log in name and password so easier to set up again).

Well a lot has happened since we were last online (early August). Basically I resigned my job, giving six months notice as required, therefore expected to work until Feb 05 when family and I planned to leave UK for NZ. Plan torpedoed! Employer threw a wobbler, and me out on to the street with immediate effect. After some argy bargy (and litigation still pending - I'll teach those b*stards to treat me like dirt!) wife and I wondered whether we should accelerate our plans to leave. In short, I went to NZ last week for a week, for job interviews and general looking around. Secured not one but two job offers! NZ employers were very appreciative of the fact that I went all the way out there and could see them at a moment's notice, in return they were very helpful (eg unprompted guided tour of Auckpland!) and realised we were v. serious in our intentions to move. Best decision I ever made - top tip, go out there if you can, even if it is for a short period, it will almost certainly be worth the financial and time commitment.

Anyway, new plan now is to leave UK early Oct, have a three week holiday in Australia, leaving two weeks to settle in Auckland before starting work in mid-Nov. The main obstacle now is whether we can secure work visas before we go, which would be ideal, plus we will lodge our EOI this week to start the PR process going.

It has been pretty manic here and, in a way, not working has been a bonus as the whole emigration process takes so much time and effort (and patience, my god do you need patience!).

I think someone sent a PM to our old Lee & Nicky account a few weeks back, can't pick it up as now using new ID. Apologies to whoever it was who sent it, not being rude!

Got a mountain of paperwork to get ready for meeting with immigration people on Tuesday, will keep browsing and posting when I get a chance. There is a lot I have missed out on that has been posted here over the last month or so - will need to settle down for a few hours one evening to catch up!

Wow guys!! An unfortunate scenario turns into the perfect scenario - you have 2 job offers in NZ... wow. (Can I ask what industry you are in?).

This gives us great hope for our job hunting.

Were the employers not fazed by your lack of work visa? Are they all going to get yours sorted for you?

I think that this has confirmed our long-term belief that if you are on the ground in NZ then getting a job should be alot easier.... let's hope so in our case!

Well done!

Sorry to hear things with your resignation did not go quite to plan, but it seems things have perhaps worked out to you advantage and congratulations for having two job offers.

How is the sale of your house going? did you get a buyer in the end?

Keep us informed of your progress, a holiday in oz on the way out sounds fab, can't wait to visit oz again! Eric the lucky b**ger gets to go in a couple of weeks on a course!! Little did they tell me before I refused to go that it was in the best hotel in Australia with tons for children to do!!

Anyway, enjoy and we look forward to hearing more.

Best wishes
Amanda

Lee & Nicky,

I had to change my user name too (formerly MGoulet). Glad to see you back on the forum, and so glad to know that the unfortunate result with your old employer turned out so perfectly in the end! :nice1

Rick & I were selected in the last go-round (Sep 15), so our plans are full steam ahead. Still, you will beat us to NZ by a few months. Good luck with everything and keep us posted!
