Hi everyone.

It seems everything is going smoothly. I picked up my medical results last night and the Dr said everthing is fine.

I have 1 slight issue. I'm apply with 8-10 years experience in my chosen field, but the company i worked for in my first job 8 years ago is no longer with us. I can't seem to contact the directors. All i have to prove i worked there is my p60 and a p45. Will this be enough?

NZ immigration say they need a headed letter saying what i did etc, whoch i have for every other job.

Hello and welcome.:)

Well, they can't get a letterhead from a firm that doesn't exist any more. Can you get e.g. a notarized statement from a former colleague there to testify as to what you did? Or, maybe, ask your CO what they suggest would be a suitable alternative? You can't be the only person this ever happened to.

Do you still have your contract, or letter offering the job?

How long were you working there?

I've only got my p60 and p45. Also I was the only employee there. It was a tiny firm. I was there for a year.

I'll ring that £1 a minute number tonight

Don't ring the £1 a minute one! - use the one given for 'from abroad'. It gets you through to the same place, and it's only normal national rate.

Another thought - do you need the extra points you'll get for just that one year? If you can do without them, it might be a lot less hassle not to mention that year's work.

I had much the same issue with work experience - one of my previous firms no longer existed, but I still had contact with my former boss at the old firm. I actually had him write up a letter on his company's current letterhead, explain that the old company did not exist, but attest to the fact that I was employed there from x date to y date, and if they had any questions, he would be happy to answer any of them.

So far, that seems to have worked no problem. ;)

We had work experience from a company that went bankrupt and we had no idea where former co-workers went. We did have pay stubs from the company, but we also wrote an explanation in the cover letter for the ITA and NZIS had no questions about it.

Are you alread in New Zealand? If so, I wonder if all letters must be actually mailed or would immigration accept a pdf letter from a former employer to emailed to you to speed things up? Do they expect all letters to actually be physically mailed--I personally have had the hardest time getting former employers to actually mail letters. They just won't bother with it, but they email them via a pdf file.

Cheers everyone, thats been very helpful. Like i said, all I have is my p60 and p45 as proof. I know one of the directors lives in the USA now and the other one just isnt replying to me. I'll give NZ immigration a bell when I can. I certainly don't want this holding anything up.
