Satellite broadband

We will be moving to a rural area where broadband is not currently available through the normal telephone line or via mobile broadband.

The only remaining option appears to be broadband via satellite. The following company http://www.farmside.co.nz/ are quoting virtual 100% coverage (unless you live at the bottom of a valley) with speeds of up to 2 Mbps on their top package.

I would be interested to know if anyone has experience of this company or can recommend an alternative supplier.

As I will be working from home, the broadband connection is not just a ‘nice to have’ but is fundamental to our choice of location.

Many Thanks

hi
farmside works ok
it does seem to be up and down a fair bit and is not fast if you are used to a uk fixed wired connection (or a nz one for that matter) but it does work
its certainly better than dial up but i wouldnt want to stream live video over it - youd be paying through the nose for the downloaded data quantity as well
