Hi All,
This is our first post, and would like to know peoples views on the job situation for Graphic Designers in NZ.
I am a Graphic Designer [Senior/Studio Manager role] looking to come over beginning of July, with my wife and 2 children 13 and 16.
Have got full residency, have worked in Bay of Plenty in 2007. Currently have a reasonable job in UK. But have a yearning to go back to NZ. Have to make a decision very soon as visa runs out July.
Cheers

Hard though this advice might be and following the experiences of several posters on this board....if you've got a job at the moment and need a job to support you.......keep it and don't move at the moment unless you have a job to come to.
There are no more jobs here than anywhere else and the move will deplete your money very quickly.
Sorry but thats my honest advice :(

Hi and welcome,
I look forward to reading any replies you may have! My husband is a Graphic Designer too, and we are hoping to make the move to NZ next year. He is currently out of work in the UK since being made redundant, so our UK saftey net has gone!

well...Im a graphic designer and I studied my diploma in motion graphics from Auckland but here Im now back in India..the reason- No jobs for (freshers)motion graphic designers in New Zealand. :wah
But from whatever I know about graphics in NZ, one thing is affirmative that there are stil few jobs for print graphic designers but motion/tv/film designers find it hard to have a full time job. They usually work on freelance basis there.
Out of 13 of us in the class only 2 (last I knew) have found full time jobs...other are doing freelance work and doing odd jobs to pay the bills
I get seek mail alerts...and the designer jobs advertised in NZ are like....2 in a month...maybe less...and that too print and not motion.
If you can get a job before you arrive in NZ, it would make sense to make the move in these times of recession...but then again you have better chances of getting a job if you have PR.
Hope I made some sense!! :uhoh
Good luck!! :nice1
