As most people on the forum seem to be applying for PR, I wonder whether anyone out there has any knowledge of general work visas. We visited NZ in December and my hubby was offered a job by Pratt and Witney at Christchurch airport :clap .They advised that we apply for a visa as it will be no problem as they are a registered employer so we are going down that route.
We have got together all our evidence of Pauls ability to do the job and that we are a happily married couple (or at least we were until we decided to emigrate! :no
We have done police checks :bobby , done medicals , house is on the market and Paul is going up to NZ house in May to see the case officer who deals with Pratt and Witney applicants. So , so far so good , but does anyone know if we get our get our visas in May is there a specific time within which Paul has to start the job upon which the visa is based .I did see 3 months written down somewhere , is this right? Our biggest problem will be the sale of our house as the market is dead and buried here at the moment , anyone want to buy a 4 bedroom detached house near the seaside?
We are going to the South East meet on May 1st, looking forward to meeting like minded souls there

Denise your situation sounds the same as ours.

Neil, my hubby has been offered a job with an accredited employer in Auckland so he'll be applying for a Work to Residence Visa. We had our medicals last week, police checks done etc and our house has just gone on the market!

It's a weird feeling isn't it - you have to carry on with normal life, but at the same time your head is focussed on the move all the time.

I'm unsure what the requirements are once you get the visas though so sorry not much help on that score am I?

Good luck to you though and hope everything works itself out soon for all of us.

(For the sake of sanity let it be smooth and let it be soon eh?) :yes :yes
:yes :yes

Am probably in the same boat, but my situation is slightly different. I am going out on a general work visa (HGV driver).

Now i have a visa which runs for 2 years. I have this time to enter the country and turn it into a 2 year permit. As for a visa with an accredited company i am unsure. As a permit for a accredited company may differ slightly, it just may be playing by the same rules. You maybe looking at a period of 3 years on a visa rather than 2, only because a permit with an accredited company is for 3 years and not 2.

Please don't quote me, but this is my understanding, but there again i could be wide of the mark.
