A word of warning for anyone intending to use this company.

We used a shipping company called United Movers International. They gave us a price to ship everything and then failed to pack the container properly, left half our stuff behind without telling us and then charged us for second container that will be only half full. Basically they are not a competent company and should be avoided.

I have spent weeks trying to solve the problem from the NZ and there excuse is they priced to ship a container not a house lot. They gave us a price for a 40 ft container, inspected the house and then suggested a bigger container which we went for. They then only let us know when we contacted them from NZ that everything did not fit. At the time of packing they choose what to send instaed of asking us ans consequently we have basics like beds left out of the container and largwe items which can't be sent as tea chests. If they had acted competently we could have used a 45ft container or shipped the car RORO.

Now they want to charge us an extra 1800 pounds to ship a second container half full. we are still waiting on the final costs.

By the way .............. if there is anyone that has an overflow and has goods that they want shipped in the other half of a container please get in touch and we can make an arrange. The container is going to Auckland.

Can you confirm if you where going to use them. I got off the phone with them this morning and they still refuse to accept that they have screwed up. The container that is coming now is costing 1600 pounds and they have the cheek to charge me admin charges when they said they would do it at cost. Be aware they also trade under another name "Gil Stauffer". It is the same office and the same people.

There liitle trick is to say they only quote for the container and do not gauantee the contents will fit. Make sure you geta catorgoric statement from them or any other shipping company that the price is to relocate your entire worldly belongings.

Hope this helps anyone considering moving to NZ.
Thanks for the warning.

I wonder if it is worth going via the Trading Standards' complaint service and kicking some butt?

Check them out at http://www.consumercomplaints.org.uk/
