So after a few months of nothing we get a letter asking for original police certifactes from the USA although we submitted them back in Feb 09 with package! We got this same request in late Feb 09 and they admitted they made a mistake when they rechecked the package. They also say we have not provided enough relationship evidence even though we have 2 kids and been married 16 yrs!!!!!!!!
They want bank and mortgage statements etc, I am guessing for a whole yr! Any other idea of what to send them?
My son's medical (they got the wrong name and keep referring to wrong son!) has been referred as he receives weekly Speech therapy and has since been diagnosed with Speech apraxia. Does this omit us from NZ?
To complicate things we have just moved from the West coast 3 weeks ago and are living in a State where noone knows him and I have to get a full medical report on him with prognosis etc? Again any suggestions or just go to his regular pediatrician and take all of his medical records from last few yrs?
I am very frustrated.
Thanks,
:wah

I know it's probably of no consolation, but we were married for 20 years, have 4 children and came to new Zealand as a family and NZIS still wanted us to provide proof of our "genuine and stable" relationship.....
The lady in the Dunedin office suggested we should let some friends write e- mails to us and print them off- when I asked her if that would seriously be considered as a proof ( I mean- an e-mail with today's date, what sort of proof is that.....), she said yes...
We send them some fotos of all of us together, letters addressed to both of us from relatives in Germany, the rental agreement, the power bill, telephone bill.., that sort of stuff, dating back the last 12 months.

Sorry, no advice re your son's condition, although we had to deal with the medical advisor as well we did not need to send in any reports etc.

Good luck!

Hey Hagabel, that does sound frustrating.

First off - realtionship evidence - when they say they want bank/mortgage statement, what you need to send is 1 copy in joint names at the same address, for a date at least 12 months in the past, you don't need to send a years worth of statements :) if you have a couple of differenct things like that send them both .

As for the medical, from my experience you need to do the following:
1. get the questions from the MA - there should be at least a couple of specific questions/instructions (you mentioned prognosis for example)
2. find a specialist of the type that the MA has requested you get the report from (if they specifically mentioned it) or the most appropriate specialist for your child's condition.
3. get them to write a brief report on your sons condition - history, treatment, prognosis - shouldn't need to be more than about a page, unless the MA has asked a lot of questions, but do make sure all questions asked by the MA are definitely addressed in the report (that's really important)

This may seem like a pain, but if you get it right the first time the MA won't keep coming back asking for more information, thus saving you a couple of months of teeth-grinding impatience :D

Oh, so frustrating. I am perplexed by this "relationship evidence" stuff when you have kids and have sent a marriage certificate. We send out our ITA next week and I plan on including some more "evidence" just to be sure....

Jumping through hoops, jumping through hoops....hang in there!:o

I am a fellow US nurse headed to NZ. Where do you intend to settle?

Hi Cara and Hagabel,

I know its frustrating. This may help, below is a direct copy from part of the cover letter of our submission (we got our stickers on 6 May 09).

As Dusk says you don't need to send them a year's worth of evidence, but the further you can go back to show a "joint life" such as a joint bank account statement or mortgage will help. We only sent 3 things for that part, see below:

"Dear Immigration New Zealand,

Expression of Interest Number: XXXXXX

Please find enclosed our Invitation to Apply with supporting documentation.

The following are included:

1. Completed and signed application form

2. Birth certificates

3. Passports

4. Relationship evidence

· Marriage certificate
· Joint bank account statement from 12 September 2005
· Joint mortgage statement for period 01 November 2005 – 31 January 2006"

It is a big pain but we found compiling a cover letter detailing our submission helpful (for us to check), and it will help your CO to go through it too :)

Best of luck, K

Hey there, we had to submit more evidence of our relationship as well. Not sure what you have sent them in your original packet. In our original packet we sent:

-photos of us together at different times.
-our marriage certificate.
-some letters that had been sent to our house over the last few years postmarked in 2006, 2007, 2008.
-a joint insurance policy.
-a letter from my pension showing my hubby will be the primary beneficary of all funds.

But it was not enough....so we sent...

-a notarized copy (the bank can do this) of a bank statement from 2006 for hubby and 2007 for me with the same address.
-a copy of our auto insurance card with both of our names, with the dates on our policy.
-an unopened letter of a magazine renewal subscription in my name with the same address we have been living at from 2008.
-more envelopes with both of our names postmarked in 2008 and one more only to me postmarked in 2007 at the same address.
-my car registration with the address on it from 2008-2009.
-an old paycheck stub belonging to my hubby dated July 2008.

and get this...

-a receipt from Firestone that has my address on it is dated December 2007
for some car repair and one Firestone receipt for hubby's car dated in 2008, both the same addresses.

He only asked for 3-4 more correspondences but we sent WAY more than that, just to be safe. Guess it worked because we had our interview yesterday. Hope this gives you some ideas on what to send.

Good luck and try to hang in there! :nice1

I am perplexed by this "relationship evidence" stuff when you have kids and have sent a marriage certificate.

A marriage certificate shows you married, and children would imply you have consummated that marriage (although of course not even that necessarily). Surely neither is proof of a relationship.

Proof of a relationship are indeed things like living together, going on holiday together, having the same bank account, etc. I actually find that approach fairly straightforward and never took issue with this at all.

Well, if it is any consolation, hubby and I applied for PR last year with him as the primary applicant (LONG story) and all we sent was marriage cert and birth certs for the kids and we were not asked for any additional "evidence", maybe because our baby was only five months old? Who knows..... We are going to play it safe this time around and send additional evidence just to be sure...

I wonder if they are less stringent on this front with a job offer (in a long term skills shortage area) in place?

We sent
old insurance cards with both names on
forms showing we had bought, owned and sold a house together
a letter from the bank stating how long we had had a joint account
current rental agreement
Old utility bill with both names on (and that was tricky as most of them were mainly in my name only because I'm the one who sets these things up)

All they asked in addition to that was our marriage certificate. Not that you need one, but I think something must have said 'husband and wife' on it.

Thanks for all the replies!
I sent them back a reply and they have actually been very helpful. They are looking for the Police certificates. And they clarified the medical report issues. I am going to have my son's ST do a report re his condition and not worry about it any more. If they turn us down so be it, nothing I am going to be able to change. I like my new part of the US we just moved to so if we stay it is also ok. :)
So I sending original mortgage statement from May 08 and then the latest one, real estate tax statement from 06 (actually 2 as we bought/sold in that year) and a car insurance policy from May 08. Do you think that is enough?
Thanks again.

Oh, I forgot they did invite us for a telephone interview which is good!
:)

The fact that they invited you for an interview sounds as if the other things are just so they can tick boxes. I think it's very unlikely they would bother preparing to talk to you if they had any serious concerns. Fingers crossed. +++++++++++++++++:nice1

Hi

I just wanted to let you know that our sons medical was referred because of dyslexia and we had to submit more information twice. i was panicking that we couldn't get in because of this ( i couldn't actually believe that would be the case, but panic set in!). His case was referred to the ministry of education in nz (not sure why) and it all came back fine (ticking box's I think)

anyway, it all went through and we now have pr. so please don't worry about that aspect of the problems you are experiencing.

Hi there, seems like you are getting along with your PR jst fine.
Please ,a word of caution, if you make the move, for your sons sake, move near a city.
Nz has a real problem with speach theropists. I have been here 4 1/2 years ,and was a teacher aid for 1 1/2 . In my limited experience getting things like speach theropy is a mere , why cause there is a real shortage. In the far north covering 4 major towns ,and outlying areas ,(covering about 25,000 peeps),there is 1 ST.
Also if your son needs extra support at school,(not knowing anymore about your son), it again is non exsistant ,unless your child is really really really needy. for example you have to have a child with very very austistic tendancies . even then they would may be get 15 hours a week support.

Golly , i don't mean to put you off , but it's your child , you care and need to know.
But NZ will be a choice place for him to grow up.
All the best Rosetta bird
