Recruiters- enviro/sci/eng, not auckland based

We've just heard from our CO, and she's got OH scheduled for an interview on friday, so I guess it's time to start getting serious about looking for a job!

OH, the primary, is an environmental planner, and he's been 'working' with an Auckland recruiter since september. I use the term loosely, as we've mostly been put to the side with various excuses about this, that, and the other (and now find out that this gentleman is no longer working for the company... wonder why?!?!) Anyway, I recall reading that some forum members had more luck with recruiters who were not in Auckland (treated like a person and not a number, etc) and since we're not interested in Auckland anyway, that seems to make a lot of sense.

So... to get to the point :o does anyone have recommendations for employers and recruiters in the scientific/environmental/engineering fields that are based in Christchurch or Wellington? I'm also interested in the Marlborough area and Hawke's Bay, but we haven't researched those areas as much and since they're smaller don't know if there'd be recruiters based there.

Your advice and experience gladly welcomed
:cheers

I think most of the issues people have with recruiters/agencies is the need to be "in their face" - it seems that if you are not sat in front of them or on the phone locally they tend to shove you to the bottom of the pile.

That said it does sounds like you were in contact with a rum one to begin with!

I'm not sure whether this is restricted to Auckland or not (I personally know a very nice woman who works in recruitment (but not your field sadly))

good point. we're also hoping that getting PR will help convince them that yes, we ARE serious job seekers. sadly (or not ;)) my OH is very sweet and not a very 'in your face' sort of guy. I'll just have to toughen him up :D

I don't think you need to turn him into agressive go getter :laugh
just make sure he visits the recruiters in person and keeps in frequent touch with them :D

That's the exact problem I had (not that I'm the quiet type, but I don't do the whole phone for a quick chat about nothing in particular thing). It really does help to at least call them every week, if not more.
