Colin started a good thread about transferring UK pensions to NZ banks. Thought I'd ask if any Americans have tried transferring 401Ks or Roth IRAs to NZ banks?

Has anyone spoken to a financial advisor (perhaps recommended by the US embassy??) about how to manage funds? If so, can you recommend anyone in particular?

If it seems reasonable and doable, we were thinking it would be safest to get all money out of the US... Has anyone else done this?

I talked to the manager of our 401K accounts (after getting assurance that he wouldn't mention the conversation to my employeer). He said that it's no problem with the 401K account. You can leave it alone for up to a year, I believe. He said was a piece of cake to move it over to a standard investment account and transfer part or all of it over to NZ. He said that you can take what you need and keep earning off the rest untill you need it.
