I've just checked the immigration website, and they've anounced 44 trades to be removed from the issl from monday, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if anyone out there is hoping to move over on a work visa through this route, you may want to take a look at the changes, you can find the list on 'latest news'.
Hope it doesn't affect anyone

Phew.................... OH's stays on, had enough bad news this week, that would have just tipped it over the edge....

Mind you, as a Peadiatric Nurse I am optimistic she/us will have a good case when applying for Work Pemit (going WTR route because want to move as soon as poss).

I already posted this in a thread elsewhere (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?p=300992#post300992), but thought it might be prudent to start a new thread so it's not missed by those to whom this is relevant.

The biannual review of the ISSL, which is administered by the Department of Labour, sees 44 occupations removed from the list. The list comprises occupations deemed to be in immediate short term shortage in the New Zealand labour market.

The removal of the occupations from the list is the result of extensive consultation with industry groups, other stakeholders and relevant government agencies.

Removal of occupations from the ISSL does not mean employers cannot recruit migrants in those occupations. An employer can demonstrate genuine attempts to recruit a suitable New Zealander, as is the process with all other occupations. If, after the labour market is tested, Immigration New Zealand is satisfied no suitable New Zealanders are available in that location then temporary work permits will still be granted.

Occupations which were identified as readily trainable and those for which New Zealanders may be available were prioritised for review, to ensure opportunities for New Zealanders.

The full information can be found here (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/news/issl.htm).

Silver

OH a carpenter and just submitted out ITA. What does this mean...will we get a refund? So disappointed.

I think once the ITA is issued any changes will be subject to a grandfather clause.
I can't find a reference though, so I'd ask shortagesreview@dol.govt.nz.

It does say The current lists (published on 2 March 2009) will remain effective until the revised lists come into effect.

I think it just means that future EOI submissions will no longer be able to claim points for those areas as they are no longer on the LTSSL.

Not sure you meant LTSSL it should be ISSL, and whilst the last review only came into force in with effect on 2nd March (it was delayed due to systems upgrades) it does say that this new list become effective "from Monday 15 June 2009".

For joules1000, I would contact your CO to see what they have to say on your specific application.

We submitted our application in April so 'pending residency' at the moment based on the old list. I'm a travel consultant which although was on ISSL which has now been removed but was not classed as 'skilled work' skill level 4 ANZSCO for residency but IT got me & my partner initially into NZ via work permit (me be principle applicate), my partner has been on an 'open visa,' doing carpentry/building 'permanant work' and has just qualified with 3 yrs work experience and we applied with him being the principle applicant and was selected. I notice now on the LTSSL they no longer recognised equilivant work experience only a qualification for carpentry/builder. If we manage to get in it will be down to good timing and by the skin of our teeth!! I'm assuming that the old policy is ok for us as the changes only came in today?

just to update...

I contacted London INZ and they replied:

" I am delighted to inform you that there will be no negative effect on your application as your ITA was assessed on the previous policy."

Will it still effect whether our application is successful...we'll have to wait and see?!
