Hi All,

Just received my huge pack through the post inviting me to apply for residency so obviously please about that!

I realise I now have 4 months to get everything sorted and posted off and hopefully there will be no problems with that.

My question is: If I send my ITA paperwork back after 4 months (Oct 09) and everything is accepted - will I then have 12 months to actually make the move to NZ?

I'm in the lucky position that I have a job offer already but it's not until Oct 2010. The reason I've started so early is that I'm off to work abroad for 6 months from Oct 09 until Apr 10 and I wanted to get as much done before going.

Hope I haven't 'jumped the gun' so to speak :uhoh

hi ya

I think it works something like this. You get your ITA accepted, then it gets put in a queue to be processed and when you get to the top of the pile, you get a Case Officer and they start to look at your case. For us, we submitted our ITA in December 08 and it wasn't until April 09 that we had a Case Officer look at our case (yip, it was 4 months til we got a CO!!!). So that already took some time.

Then (we had our passports) we got PR in principal and then had 6 months to submit our passports for blue stickers. Then, if I'm correct, once we were stickered, we now have a year to enter NZ and claim our residence. So once ITA has been approved in principal you could drag it out for a year and a half if you want to.

Good luck

The only extra thing that strikes me is to make sure that you can be contacted by your CO when s/he is eventually assigned, even if you're abroad at that time, in case s/he has any questions for you, arising from what you've put on your EOI.
