We are going to Christchurch in a couple of weeks with Permanent Residence visas tucked nicely away in the Passports.
Is it the same procedure as when you go your holidays? Is there a separate wee gate you should go through? Do we follow the sign saying 'Champagne Reception For All New Immigrants'? Or will nobody bother?
Who's done it?
What happens?

No champagne reception I'm afraid ! :? :? If you get a nice Immigration official they will probably smile and welcome you to your new home, but it's the normal queue and no special treatment I'm afraid - just that great feeling in yourselves that you've finally made it and here is the start of your new life :nice1 :nice1

Do you go through emigration that's marked for New Zealand residents or for your passport country?
Thanks,
Kate

Just the normal one: non-NZ Passports
As said - you feel they "should" have a special queue just for new Residents! We just felt special enough within ourselves, knowing most of the others in the queue had to go back home in a few weeks and we were there to stay!! :P :P

Oh God. What happens (does anyone know) if your husband has an NZ passport but you don't? Do we have to go in separate queues? Aaaahh. :eek

Yup, although when we came back from OZ after Easter I presented my UK passport and RRV and was told that I could use the NZ nationals queue in future. The 'aliens' queue was actually shorter so I beat the wife and kids through (they have NZ passports) but it is nice to feel like you belong.
