On the crime stats I really feel that if you were take a random sample of 100 people from rural, urban or city environments here or a 100 in the UK you are going to get the same proportion of 'good, bad and indifferent' human nature is the same the world over, its just the bit of land they are standing on thats different. The sheer volume of people proportion wise in the UK means there are more reportable extreme crimes. There have been 3 homicides here in Chch in 7 weeks. chch is the same size as the town we lived in in the UK and that would struggle to match those figures. I am not saying that this is an everyday occurance, just using it as an example.
Spot on Veronica. The population here in Ireland is not much different to NZ but on a much smaller land mass. The crime is probably (I'm not going to start searching for stats) on a par with the UK. 3 homicides in 7 weeks would be a good figure here at the moment - more like 3 in 3 days at times. Only good thing about it is that they're mostly criminals killing each other :clap But that's only mostly. There's been two women murdered in their own homes in the last six months too. :( One thing that's bothering people with regard to immigrants too is the different types of crime that are occuring. Headless, limbless torso dragged out of The Liffey in Dublin a couple of weeks ago; body in a suitcase a few months before that. :eek
However, that aside, we were talking about leaving last night and both agree that it's better to want to move 'to' somewhere than 'away from' somewhere. We don't hate being here at all and if we were only going for reasons of security or attitude what would happen the first time we encountered these in NZ? Big disappointment I imagine.
There's hardly a family that hasn't got a 'black sheep' in it somewhere - well the same principle applies to places. There's always, at least, ONE bad apple, everywhere :uhoh
