Hello everyone!

We shall arrive in 5 weeks on visit visas and I going to be searching for a job in I.T. Sales. Given the current climate, what do people think my chances are like? I have 8 years experience in the field and good references... I'm going to start in Auckland...does anyone have any advice? or share some opinion on this?

Thanks for any help offered..

This is not based on any rigorous analysis of the numbers but my gut feeling is that Sales and Account Manager type roles are one of the very few areas in IT where there has been any demand in the past six months. So you might be OK.

I do skim the list of all jobs classed as IT on seek.co.nz and just get that impression from the headlines. I haven't done any digging to work out whether there is a genuine demand or whether it is just a recruitment agent advertising the same job again and again because they have got nothing else to do (which does happen).

Otherwise, IT work has been very thin on the ground lately.

Good luck!

Good luck. During my search I did see some demand in IT sales. However, there was also concern about lack of local experience and contacts in the industry. Depending on your sale field this could be a concern.

Hi Clappy, thanks for the reply. My initial impression is the same that there is still a demand for these roles. After all companies still need to find good sales people. I hope I'm right, thanks again.

Hi andrewp, this would be my concern too. I think more and more employers want to hire people with an existing network to manipulate. Obviously this may go against me somewhat....no harm in trying though...thanks.

Just aware IBM NZ has 1 to 2 job ads about IT sale representative.
See if you are interested with them or not.

It's pretty tough right now across IT although Sales by it's nature does tend to have some churn so jobs do crop up. Try to get as many contacts from friends/colleagues in the UK as possible as building a network will be very useful in getting a job out here.

Good luck!
