Our stint in NZ is coming to an end - we are off to Melbourne to less green pastures but more IT vacancies. We may be back once the recession is over; our love to NZ hasn't diminished but it will have to be put on hold for a while.

So far we had quotes from two moving companies, both at the 'Rolls Royce' end of the spectrum. Not surprisingly, the figures knocked our socks off. Can you please recommend a moving company which operates between NZ and Oz and which will not charge us twice as much as we were charged a year ago to arrive from the UK?

If you are reluctant to name companies on the forum, a private message will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hila, got your PM but I'm afriad I can't help much as when we moved (from Hawkes Bay to NSW) most shippers wouldn't even come quote- they were so over stretched already they just couldn't take on any more, so we ended up going to the big guns and eventually there were only 2 companies that could move us, one pulled out (nothing to do with us- just being over committed- not sure how many ppl leave NZ for Oz!!) and that left us with Crown who we had used UK-NZ. We parted with an eye watering NZ$7,300 (iirc) and took our chances and went no insurance. Mental prices. Hope you do better :)

Crown quoted us $6850 for 2/3 container (groupage) and no insurance. In addition, we have the 'option' of taking comperhensive insurance with them for a 'special offer' price of $2500. Maybe we should just leave our stuff here and start again (-:

Hoping to get more reasonable quotes elsewhere....
