Hi all,
we're moving to ChCh in June for 4 months & have been trying to find some temp accomodation in the area. Have been offered what seems to be a decent place in Sumner, i know ChCh CBD, but none of the surrounding areas, could somebody please tell me what Sumner is like. Lived in Wellington in 2003 by the beach & loved it, hoping its similar, ie, not too busy, clean safe etc. Any advice would be great.

Oh Sumner, my fav topic

Fab place, great atmosphere - village like. Everything u need, even a cinema. Great beaches, good commute time into CBD - hubby took 30 mins to Riccarton which is further than CBD.

You can't go wrong with Sumner. Not busy, very safe (used to walk dog on my own at midnight), great facilities. Expensive for housing but worth every penny IMHO.

If you want specifics please don't hesitate to PM me :nice1

If you want me to check out the place you have been offered I can do that, whilst we moved from Sumner 2 weeks ago I still work there so can pop round to have a look.

Oh, and fab bus service into town (runs v. late).

LOTS of cafe's, good restaurants (you must check out Wakefields) and the people there are so friendly it will blow your mind.

Very clean too.

Only time it does get a bit busy is on sunny weekends, but even then it's nothing compared to "busy" in the UK!!

Once we've established our living costs here and I've sold my flat in the UK we'll be looking to move back to that area. BUT.. it's expensive.. BUT.. it's worth it.

Rentals there are approx $300+ a week for unfurnished. Some lovely houses but, as with many good areas, there's the odd shabby one. Hence my offer of checking out your rental. ;)
