Has anyone ever attempted to get NZQA recognition of army qualifications? My husband is a qualified Vehicle Mechanic but has army rather than civvy street qualifications. We don't know whether it is worth applying for assessment of those. He has a job offer but that is conditional on him getting NZQA!
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

I'm an ex-REME armourer with the usual army and City & Guilds quals.
I'm assuming he is class 1VM?!
If he is he will get a good NZQA rating. I got assessed at level 4 Advanced trade certificate in Engineering trades craft studies, I would expect him to get at least that if not higher.
Level 4 gets you 50 points, if he gets higher it may give him an extra 5!
I believe they are crying out for fitters-I mean vm's ;) so I don't think it will be much of a problem.

Hi Hayden,
When I took my Army training at SEME in 1983 they didn't give us City & Guilds Certificates and I have since found out that the training can't be post recognised. I finished my time as a VM Class 2. Did you get your NZQA on the C&G qualification or the actual Army(REME)Qualification?
Also did you apply for a full NZQA or just a Pre assessment?
Where are you off to?
I left the REME in 1988 when did you leave?
Cheers for the info

Keith is ex RAF and we submitted our EOI and ITA without any NZQ assessments . A lot of his qualifications are City & Guilds and he has claimed work experience points for all the years he was in the RAF (22 years) for various roles he's done.
We've yet to see what is said about it or if he needs to get them assessed. If he does that's going to be mighty expensive as he has so many of them...
On another note... I think it's strange that you have to get anything other than City & Guilds assessed, after all they are only an awarding body. There seems to be some misconception that City & Guilds is a qualification. I just had to give a long explanation of my NVQ and OCR who assessed it, which is equally comparable to City & Guilds. It was granted level 4 status.

TBH when I sent my stuff off I just stuck it all in an envelope and stuck it in the post. I think it cost about $300 when you got a lot of $ for a £.
Didn't take them long at all, but it was in '97, so not sure if it was as widely used then.
Send your stuff and see-its only money ;)
