Has anyone had any expereince or knows of anyone that has immigrated to NZ with children with a disability specific to blindness, with no further impairements or health problems. If so how did they get on.
Thanks in advance
Catherine :P

I probably think that no-one has encountered this problem as it is quite rare.

Hi Catherine
I don't have any answers for you I am afraid. I can't recall reading anything on this topic before. You could always email the nzis :? Sorry couldn't be more helpful. Best of luck

Thanks Joanne, i am pretty sure its extremely rare. I think what we are going to do is get all the paperwork started, do it in our own time and see how we get on. I am a midwife so getting a job is relatively easy, a group called Beresford Blake Thomas is the agency whom many of my colleges have gone through without problems within about 6 months with excellent jobs, however none had the same problem as us. We are only at the discussing stages at this stage and have made no plans whatsoever, we are visiting New Zealand either Next December or early the following year definitley, both for a holiday and to get a feel for the place.
Thanks anyway, i am sure we will find our information somewhere, NZ immigration helpline did say that because his disability does not have any impact upon healthcare and only education it shouldnt be a problem

Hi Catherine,
We are a Belgian family with a disabled child. We were granted residency last month. I briefly explained our story on this forum a while ago:

Thanks Lesley for your reply, i hope this would be the case for us, even though the disability is different, the educational side is very similar. Our son would need extra support in school not any medical attention.
Do you think however with the change since April that it would be near impossible for us.
Thanks Catherine

Hi Catherine,
I have no idea if it would be harder after the changes. I have the strange feeling though that NZIS tries to make it seem harder than it actually is.
Just make sure to provide NZIS with enough information about your son's medical situation and history.
Good luck!
Cheers, Lesly :smile

hi, Catherine, How are things going? Are there any policies which refuse any disabled people under any category?

I think Catherine have left forum.
However, I am hearing impaired and there was another member's OH who is also hearing impaired, we both had no problems with NZIS with our disabilities. Try look into NZIS's website for list of disabilities that are refuse.
