Any suggestions for affordable hotels in Auckland? We are interested in a hotel with a free shuttle to/from the airport and probably not too far from the airport. We don't intend on doing any site seeing while in Auckland so location is not key for us (though certainly would like to be an area that is okay of course).

Also, as per our other post, looking for suggestions for car buying once we are on the ground in Auckland.

I found the Ventura Inn http://www.venturainns.co.nz/Aklairport_intro.htm absolutely ideal for a basic clean and decent place. They had a shuttle to and from the airport, provided a complimentary breakfast (toast,cereal,coffee,muffins etc), newspapers. The rooms were clean and tidy equipped with heatpumps. The price for a studio room was $115 per night. It's very close to the airport, but not a "pretty" area.

Can't help with specific hotels but had you considered booking through last minute bookings as you can get a room at a cheaper price

i recommend the ventura also. if you want to be in the cbd, best western is average but functional and cheap and the citylife is ace :nice1

You could also look at travelbug.co.nz for cheap deals. If you are staying more than one night I'd recommend a serviced apartment- with small kitchen and washer dryer which is really useful and saves money. there is a chain called quest which is all over town.
