Well, guess what folks? I was offered the job that I interviewd for last week. I start on July 4, in Rotorua, working for the Royal NZ Commission of the Blind.
How cool is this? They're starting the work visa stuff today. If NZIS gives them a hard time, they said to start the EOI paperwork and do it that way.
Question tho, do I have to pay to ship my stuff if I just go on a work visa?

Not sure I understand your question! You have to pay whatever visa you are on :?

Well, my original idea was to go over after I got pr, but haven't done much research into a regular work visa. I could search, but my brain is only functioning on certain levels.
I just wanted to know about paying for my household goods when they arrive in nz.

Hi, Hope this helps! and well done with the job offer :clap
Found this on www.customs.gov.nz
Your household or other related effects (excluding motor vehicles, boats and aircraft) will be admitted free of duty and exempt GST for a reasonable time after your arrive, provided you can meet all of the following requirements:
you are coming to New Zealand with the intention and legal authority to take up or resume permanent residence
you have lived outside New Zealand for the whole of the 21 months before the date of your arrival in New Zealand
you have owned and used the goods before the date of your departure for New Zealand
the goods are for your own personal use and not intended for any other person or persons or for gift, sale or exchange.

Hi Mechidna,
We came over on 2-yr work visas and we did not have to pay for GST. As long as the work visa you're holding is valid for more than a year, they will allow you to import your personal goods tax-free.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I have to honestly say that the excitment is quickly being replaced by 10-week panic. I haven't found a shipper yet and I can't get a hold of JunniferUsa to get her shipper's information.
And there's the dog situation, don't know what to do about that. I need four months (she qualifies) to get her ready for quarantine. Hopefully my mum will change her mind and take care of her while i'm away.
I'm was hoping for lay offs at work so I could collect unemployment checks and stay home. :laugh It could happen...
Off to work I go...

Hey Jules,
I think you, ruthyroo and I should all meet up. I'm coming in about the 20th of June. I didn't want to get there and start work immediately.
btw, are there any good motels (with kitchens) close to the Community House?

Hi Mechidna
Let me know where the Community House is, cant really say that I have seen it, if it is in town most of the motels/hotels are based on Fenton Street which is a short walk into town anyway and I can get some phone numbers etc. for you. We stayed in a nice motel when we first got here which had a kitchen etc. and a reasonable rate.

Thanks Jules. I just got my letter from the foundation. I guess they're going to put me up for a couple weeks in a place, so that's a little less worry for me.
They even surprised me with a relocation assistance offer and a company car for a couple weeks.
very impressive, especially since I didn't know they were doing it. :clap
Now I just need to figure out my next step...
