Hi to all,
I am preparing for the interview fol submission of ITA and to one sure question "Where do you want to live?" i admit that i really have no idea.
I am an Information Systems Auditor (IT professional if u like )and my wife works as secondary school teacher. We have 2 kids a boy 8 years old and a girl of 4 years.
I would be grateful if you could provide me with some answers on what the best place to live, to work and to ensure good school to my kids.
Looking for many answers from YOU ALL. :nice1
Thanks

Pretty broad question that. There's a lot of threads on specific places on here, may be worth reading a few of those to pencil some places in or some out to create a short list first? Or look through and make a list of what you do want and what you really don't.

Hi,
We are thinking of Christchurch due to cheap rental cost.
Any advice?

Have you considered Dunedin?

Dunedin, we do not have any objections provided there are job opportunities for us.
Can we live in Dunedin and go to work in Christchurch easily by public transport? If yes, how long approx the travel in Kms and in duration.
thanks

Can I suggest you commence your investigation into NZ life by purchasing a map, or bookmarking google maps?

I suspect that due to your profession, you may only find jobs in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch (and Christchurch may be a long shot), so my advice would be to investigate those cities first. All the best.

It's a six-hour drive, one-way, between Christchurch and Dunedin. Working in Christchurch but living in Dunedin would be a challenge.

Six hours might be slightly exaggerated, but even 4 1/2 is a bit too much for a daily commute!
My husband worked in Christchurch for six months while we lived in Dunedin and did the trip every Friday resp.Sunday night..., he was very happy when he could cut the travel time in half after he started to work in Timaru!

I drive like a nana... ie 105km/hr max on 100km/hr roads. Plus, I usually take a nice lunch break in either Timaru or Oamaru. I think the last time I made the trip it took me 5 and half hours if I remember correctly!

Have a look at the Otago Daily times website. www.odt.co.nz and click on the jobs link. Dunedin is a very good city for young families. Great schools and a top notch university. Lower rentals and property are offset by lower wages and colder weather. Great people though!
