Hi Guys,

The waiting game is killing me!!! I recently had my interview (April 2005)with a visa officer and right after the interview, he told me that i have to wait for 2 months to know if I would be approved or denied.

My interview went well, had the opportunity to tell my case officer of all my plans and stuff about how I will be able to settle in NZ..

What do you think are my chances of being denied? I'm really looking forward to settle in NZ, but right now, my hopes are hanging by a thread... :wah

Any thoughts or encouragement will be greatly appreciated :nice1

Jingsia - I think the signs are very encouraging from what you say. Also, sorry if I am misleading you here, but I seem to recall getting the impression from another forum member(s) that this mention of a post-interview long delay is not unheard of in NZIS in your part of the world. Whether the wait will turn out to be that long is another thing - may be this was a "worst case" estimate you were given.

For what it's worth, another vague impression I sometimes get is that NZIS London has very much set an early pace in the way it has recently handled doing interviews and making decisions so quickly... and that NZIS in other parts of the world (not just yours) are either only just starting to adopt this pace or don't have the staff to do so. So your interviewer may still be doing things the way NZIS did them in economic times that did not demand the fast processing that the current need for skilled migrants seems to be dictating somewhat.

But that's just my speculation.

All the very best - sounds like you did great! :nice1

Cheers,
Matt.

Hey Matt,

thanks so much for your reply, your speculation is very encouraging, and i really really appreciate it :nice1

i forgot to tell you guys that I'm from Manila, Philippines. NZIS does not have any offices in Manila, so we have to coordinate with our CO from Beijing and Bangkok. We flew to Bangkok just to have our interviews.. (pretty expensive, and we're still not sure of the outcome)

Good for you - it sounds terrific to me that you were prepared to go to that extra expense and trouble for your interview. I think that might also show your commitment to your interviewer / case officer.

Perhaps I am right about NZIS London being pace setters in terms of 'phone interviews and decisions, perhaps not. (By the by, another possibility -- I've suggested it in a recent thread -- is that the various NZIS offices process different stages of the path to residence at speeds that are characteristic of their office... e.g., a few months ago it seemed that applicants in one world region got their EOI through to 'Decision Successful' relatively sooner than applicants in another region, but that they had to wait longer for progress a bit later on in the process (around interview stage). But given the timeline you have provided, this theory doesn't really seem to fit).

Seems to me as though you've done all you can, and done it well.
:yes
Cheers,
Matt.

I think Matt is spot on with his remarks.

I'll say it again though.

Hi Jingsia,

I am afraid the two months wait will be real. I have my interviews in early March by NZIS Bangkok and i have not heard from them yet although I do have to do additional medical tests due to my diabetic condition. Luckily for me, the test results showed that my diabetic is under control.

The only way for them to process your application faster is perhaps getting a job offer like pandanleave had done.

I am really envious of those application process from NZIS London. The applicants normally get their PR one week after the interview but for us from this part of the world, it is 2 months.

That all for now and hope for the best.

Hi Vincent,
I know you were interviewed in Singapore. Would you know if all Singaporeans are exempted from flying to Bangkok? Or it's just that you're one of the lucky ones? :nice1

Jinkee

Dear JinKee,

As far as i know all Singaporeans are exempted from flying to Bangkok as the case officer came down to interview all of us in a period of 3 days. If they do come down to Singapore, I do not see any reason why they want us to go to Bangkok for an interview.

Anyway, there are not many applicants from Singapore when compared to say, the Philippines.

Vincent, Jinkee - yes, folks, you heard it here first... I'm now quoting myself :laugh :uhoh :laugh.
I just thought I'd repeat this comment of mine because there is a chance that non-London NZIS offices will start (or already are starting) to adopt the pace and practices of London. Maybe not, but it is possible. As I implied in the above quote, it could be that other offices are under as much human workload pressure to process applications as is London, and hence will start to do things the way London is doing them. That's still just pure theory, and I have no clue as to regional work practices or rules... but it's a reasonably fair cause for hope.

And, of course, there's just the somewhat more likely scenario that work methods at your office won't change but that you will be processed in an orderly and fair way. And there's probably lots of planning you can do in the meantime, right? :yes

All the best! I reckon it says a lot, and probably bodes very well, that forum folks seem to take such care with their applications.

Cheers,
Matt.
